Arizona Chickens

I decided on getting my next chicks from mypetchicken. I have to have sexed birds and want chicks not pullets so I'm going to try there. I guess I'll most likely be waiting to get my new girls until spring when they have more selection so I can be picky and get 3 I really want. I decided on a laced polish, any color laced i think, any color silkie and then for the 3rd either a cochin, wyandotte, brahma, salmon faverolle, or sultan depending on what they have available when the polish and silkie are available. They say you have to have 3 standards or 4 mixed bantam/standards but when I filled my cart to test it out i didn't get an error with silkie so maybe silkie is a bantam they count as a LF. If I have to get a 4th I'll either have to nix the silkie and get a LF or get 4 birds with 2 being bantams. If I got 4 with 2 being bantams I should really have 75 sq ft of run space and I only have 64. If I nix the silkie and get 3 LF my run is still a little short of the 70 sq ft I should have but I feel a bit better about being 6sq ft too small than being 11 sq ft too small. If I have to wait until spring anyway I may be able to convince my bf to let me expand the run but then.... ok unnecessary rant now over.

I checked into chicks from mypetchicken as well. Although it is plastered all over their website that the minimum chick order is 3, I found that not to be true in my case. Well, just nevermind that statement then. When I type in my zipcode it tells me the minimum is 7 but when I type in my Dad's old Scottsdale zip code it says the minimum is 3. So I guess you are the lucky one! There were some hatcheries where my minimum was 15! WAY too many for my planned small flock. Just one of the disadvantages of living in an isolated town.

twinklin, I thought about getting my chicks from mypetchicken, but the shipping for so few chicks was really expensive. Like, $15 in chicks was $55 in shipping. Don't worry about run size--yours out free ranging long enough that being short of footage shouldn't matter too much.

yeah I think it said estimated shipping for the 3 chicks would be $37 so it would be around $60 total so I'm going to ask for the chicks as a x-mas/birthday gift. Since I'm very limited to the number of total birds I can have in our space I wanted to make sure I get types of chickens I really want, and I don't want to add them one at a time because I'm afraid one new chicken vs the 4 older girls might not go well so I'd really like to raise the next 3 together like I did the first batch. I'm not sure of any other way I can get 3 different fancy breed sexed day olds that I can raise together so I'll have to pay the shipping :( If anyone knows someone who can sex day olds accurately and breeds several different breeds like laced polish, silkies, cochins, wyandottes, salmon faverolles, or sultans where I could get them instead I'm all for it LOL I just don't see that happening.

yeah I'm a lucky one and my zip says

Your minimum order is:
Large Fowl Chicks: 3

Bantam Chicks: 5
Mixed Order: 4

Anyone in Tucson or nearby happen to have chicks either getting ready to hatch or hatched in the last week or so?

I had a broody hatch out a clutch about 10 days age and left some eggs on the nest when she got off. I candled the eggs and they were still developing but were younger. Threw them in the incubator and one hatched out on Tuesday night, and of course she doesn't want it and it does not look like the others are going to hatch. So my singleton needs a friend cause i can't be mommy all day.

Here she is right after she hatched.

I have a broody on eggs that should hatch in two weeks, assuming she continues to sit on them. Might not be soon enough for your situation. Check back with me October 26 if you are still interested.

Trill and Buzz my two young Keets are growing some! They are prettier! Still in my room. They don't want the heat any more but worried about putting them outside yet. They are suppoised to be 3 weeks old but wonder if the feed store was off a week?
I would LOVE to have a few of those. I find them to be fairly unpleasant to look at, but I also keep muscovies which I happen to love. :love I am pretty sure the fireman only said, " No goats, pigs, mini horses, llamas, alpacas, maybe geese but I just pretend I didn't hear that part and jersey cows". I think a guinnea could pass for a muscovy if I keep them in the duck yard. :D
Oh Kay you are funny.. That was great ..:yuckyuck

Don't know if anyone here remembers my story from last year when one of my muscovies escaped early in the morning, flew up on my neighbor's roof, flew over to the other side and landed in a different neighbor's yard, swam in their newly remodled pool, knocked on their arcadia door with her bill and got chased by a 200 pound + mastiff. She is still here.

So yesterday, same neighbors start calling and texting that my duck is on their roofs again, just flying around the cul-de-sac. Weird since I had JUST locked them up and no one was missing. Turns out, a rogue Muscovy is flying around landing on rooftops. Why does everyone assume it's mine?

I remember that story. LOL People should not assume they belong to you...but then again, people leave critters on your doorstep.

I'm also planning on placing an order with MPC in the spring. If people are interested, I'd be willing to co-ordinate a large order, and hold the chicks until people can pick them up.
