Arizona Chickens

Have you noticed that there is a lot of " It's completely back-arsewards and stupid. " around.

Animals are not permitted in the "Free" section, and that's where they are always found when someone is just giving them away. So it technically violates the terms of that section. However, in the "Pets" and "Farm and Garden" sections, a purchase or re-homing fee is required, so if you offer them for free there, then it's technically violating those terms, too. Instead of allowing the owners to try to find respectable homes for these animals, instead of just being abandoned, the Flagging Police have the ads removed. It's completely back-arsewards and stupid.
I see. So make the rehoming fee one penny and you are okay

Oh my goodness gracious yes! The looks and attitude I get when I talk about keeping the chickens, rabbits and turkeys for food... It's like the most appalling thing ever, but then they turn around and buy 20 pounds at the store that same afternoon. And then someone asked me to join their "weight loss challenge" here at work. You saw me at the processing party. I don't have any weight to lose! So today, they all turn around and do a food run to Taco Bell. Yup, you're dropping the poundage there. Common sense just ain't common no more.

Yes, but that goes back to the common sense idea. It does have to be placed in the correct category though, which is not the free section. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't be searching the pet section for free (or cheap) animals, either. They should just allow it in the Free section and be done with it. It's not breaking any laws or anything.

I agree....the flagging police get on my nerves too! Why flag the free pets when breeders post pets for ridiculous prices (also against rules-only small rehoming fees allowed) and add to pet overpopulation??

So what's to prevent someone posting animals in the Pets or Farm and Garden sections for $0.01? or even $1.00? Not exactly free, but almost so.

Is anybody else doing the Fair this weekend for the poultry showings? We were just discussing going Saturday after we get off work. Anyone interested? We'd be there by about 1330 or 1345 Hours.

we plan to go Saturday too. I get off work at 8:30am so we'll probably get there around noon or 1pm. Probably not much later than that as my new schedule has me going to bed around 7.

So sorry that I mised out on the poultry. Can you take and post some pictures so those of us who can not see the poultry will have some idea ? Please ?

Twinkling, message me your number if you are interested in meeting up. That would be. Oil and so much more fun with other chickeneers.

Flower, it is going on through Sunday if you can make it down. I will take and post photos though, just for you. ;-) It would be nice to have you down again. We always have a spare bedroom available if you want to stick around for more than a day.

We picked up the roosters tonight. They are about eight or nine months old and their spurs a larger than I expected, so they may be a bit older. Three are the white breed and one was the brown breed in the photos below.

I started my girls on fermented feed today. I checked it when I got home from work and it smelled like beer so I assumed it was doing it's thing. I used pellets to make it. I gave them a few scoops of it and we'll see how much they go through in a day. The 2 egg layers took to it instantly. The other 2 girls who aren't laying yet held off but have been exploring it. It seems Phillie loves it and I may have to watch her so she doesn't explode. I don't think she's stopped eating it since I put it out. I need to find another container to do it with the huge bag of scratch I have. I rarely give them scratch because I want them to eat good stuff. Hopefully with it fermented I'll feel better about giving it to them a couple times a week instead of the couple times a month I do now.

You could either put a small amount of scratch into the FF every couple days, OR sprout it like you would sprouts for yourself and feed it like that. chickens are crazy for sprouts, almost as much as they are for mealworms
