Hers my little hurt chick. You can see the bruising on the foot. It just drank about 1/2 ml of electrolyte mix.

Awhee, golly gee.... Man poor little guy.. Us girls have that intuition men like your DH said just pull the head off!! Yeah
Right.. The pigeons are probably already dead.. IDK.. I remember having sick baby chicks.. You just KNOW... But then again
you are like me.. Waiting & anticipating for a better result ...We are back to that good old word, suffering...I defiantly
DO NOT want to do the knife.. So for me it is the freezer..yeah still sucks but unless one of the kids or DH are home to do the job. Freezer..

We have baby bunnies! We didn't think Stu was pregnant, but when I moved the cardboard boxing blocking the nesting boxes, I found eight kits! They look healthy, too! No idea how old they are, but wow...

Going to bed, since work comes really early, but I'll try to get more tomorrow. My people on FaceBook estimate them to be about a week old. I never imagined find my bunnies making a nest in the nesting box of my chicken coop! So awesome!

Actually, I hear extreme hypothermia and freezing to death is the best way to go. You do get extremely cold and shiver for a few minutes, but then the circulation is decreased to your extremities in order to maintain your core temperature. About the time that happens, you feel significantly warmer and cozy before drifting off to sleep for the final time. Not a terrible way to die.

I'm sure you're right, but as I've never spoken to someone who died from hypothermia, I can't be certain...

Freezer? Really? I'd have an easier time giving it a quick death. I couldn't stand it knowing that little chick was slowly freezing to death. BTW, DH did cull it when he got home.

I had a duck injure a newly hatched duckling last year in a similar manner. It was fine the night before but in the morning, I found it with half its leg missing and all bruised like that. it was bleeding from the hip and obviously in shock. I had to do the deed myself and then called up Laree at work and screamed at her! it had nothing to do with her, but she's good like that. I can beat on her and she still loves me.

Wow. I'm sorry you had to do that. It was hardest on my 8 year old. He cried a bit. Broke my heart.

Our BLOCK PARTY is tomorrow evening 6pm till last man standing..
We will be grilling up chicken. "not ours" so pop on over for a drink & a bite to eat.
Bring a favorite dish of yours to share or utensils, no one has signed up for that.
We will have roasted marshmallow by the fire.. Hope to see ya all there..

Petra, I would have culled it too...accidents happen sometimes...I've had to cull both chicks and chickens due to injury/accidents etc. Never easy but sometimes it's absolutely necessary.
