:celebrate 5 EGGS! that is the most I have ever gotten in one day. 3 this morning, this evening 2 more. All of my 4 of the girls I got in May at laying. Clare, still no egg, she lays blue aqua eggs, and hasn't laid sense February. My last batch will not be ready for 3 months at best maybe 4 months. I was worried I was doing everything wrong..........

Sorry about the chick, but you are right in the end, you gave it a chance but if it is so bad it will not stay in place you had only one option.

Congratulations on the bunny's. Sadly it is impossible to harvest bunny meat, however, rabbit is totally different. I have thought of it, but right now rabbits are not in my future, that includes a bunny as a pet.

"Well, actually, the law is very specific on signs that need to be in very plain view, stating where parking may and may not occur, THAT is our problem, and "Common Sense" has absolutely nothing to do with this entire proceeding. In fact, and we had to check this for authenticity, he made a statement that if he wanted to park IN YOUR DRIVEWAY, and you have no signs forbidding that action, he CAN in fact PARK IN YOUR DRIVE ... for as long as he wants. That is a law in the Arizona Revised Statutes. You can look this up if you want to spend a few moments of incredulity ... A.R.S.28-9133"

If someone wanted to park in my driveway, I would consider that trespassing on private property, since they were uninvited. You invaded my space. Can you imagine if every private residence had No Parking signs at their driveways? If I were to take a good, hefty baseball bat and break a few windows, mirors, damage some bumpers and grilles on that beautiful Beamer that was arrogantly, disregarding another person's property, parked in my driveway without my consent....could it be proven that I did it? Could have been some young hoodlums roaming the neighborhood with nothing better to do.

My neighbor accross the street was throwing a family barbeque and I told her she could use my driveway for exta parking because I was home for the evening and not going anywhere. She had my PERMISSION. And since she has three kids and three dogs, I told her to use my garbage and recycling containers for any excess waste that she has, since I'm single and have one little dinky trash bag a week to put that container. In fact, several neighbors pitched in when she was clearing all the weeds and dead cactus/shrubbery (HOA Police). We all stuffed our containers to help her.

As far as the ARS codes go, there was a project going on years ago (I think my supervisor was working with that before she retired) to get all the Counties to unify these codes accross the board. Some agencies charge "Battery", while others charge "Assault." It would make things easier when you had conflict cases that had to be transferred out to other prosecuting agencies. Don't even mention City Court, they're in a world all their own.

Oh wait...this is a chicken board. Have they brought you any joy and entertainment today with their silly antics? Other than the wind, Tucson weather is wonderful with the lower temps, and the chickens should be enjoying it, too. Hopefully, no panting, wings spreaded, standing in a pool of ice water. Crap, I wish I had them already, but I have to bide my time. It's like planning to be a first-time home owner, and I wanna make sure all my ducks (no pun intended) are in a row before taking on such an endeavor. No doubt, it will be an exciting and rewarding experience for me...what a change of pace!

I shouldn't gab so much since I have no chickens yet, but the anticipation and excitement of the whole thing really fascinates me, and when you all share your stories, it makes it all the better why I should go that route. I'll be hitting up the AZ (especially Tucson) folks for tips, tricks and advice.

Thanks so much for all that you contribute to this thread. You touch many lives and spread that chicken love, even to non-poultry folks who have jumped on the bandwagon. --BB

I'm sure you're right, but as I've never spoken to someone who died from hypothermia, I can't be certain...

Of the years in Boy Scouts and my extracurricular wilderness survival trips, I've talked to a few who came very, very close to it. Ironically, the very cold that was killing them was what allowed them to be saved. It slows down the body's metabolism and brain activity enough that people have been brought back from the very brink of death. The hardest part is controlling the re-heating of the body. Once it starts to warm, the body will open the capillaries in the limbs in an effort to start saving them. This causes the extremely cold blood to start rushing through the entire body and the core temperature will end up dropping an additional amount if it's not done correctly. This extra drop quite often causes cardiac fibrillation once that cold blood hits the heart, which is the ultimate reason for their deaths. The patient is still unconscious at that point, so there's still no pain on their part, but it's a very risky situation.

Showoff! Mine are still completely moulting and I am at three or four weeks without a single one. Hopefully, that comes to an end real quick here.

Bunnies and rabbits are the same thing, however rabbits and hares are different. For meat rabbits, they are generally harvested at 8 to 10 weeks, which would still be a bunny in most peoples books, however, we're utilizing a little bit different terminology for the girls. The cute bunnies are the parents because we get to keep them. The babies, which will become the meat source, are being called rabbits so that it's less likely they get attached. Hopefully that's the way it goes, although my wife has already chosen two that she things are really cute.

Since they are free ranging, they are virtually free. I give about two cups of pellet feed every week and they absolutely go to town eating the bermuda grass and scrap vegetables that we throw out. I'm keeping more pellets out for them starting last night, to keep her protein higher for the breastfeeding, but that's still far less feed than many people go through for their pets. No cages and I'll let her make her nests where ever she finds natural. I just was never expecting that to be the nesting box!
