Awhee how adorable... Hope you find some, keep us posted along with what breeds you get.. Love your photo.. &Hello. I am in Tucson (NE side) and looking for very young chicks (0-3 days old). I would like to place a few with two sweet broody hens, one of which successfully hatched an adopted egg this morning! I would be so happy to be able to give them more babiesDid anyone have an (overly) successful Easter hatch with chicks to spare? Thanks!

I finally broke down and bought one of those fly trap things. How long after you add the water are you supposed to get the dead corpse putrid smell? I assumed it was instant but apparently not? Or I got a dud? I filled it around 3 hours ago and nothing. No smell, no flies. The package just says replace every 30 days or when it gets full. Doesn't say when the attractant becomes active.
I'm sure City will answer but I think she may have quoted the wrong post. Some of the valley people order an organic feed and it is picked up at a place called Baker's... or something like that.im a little lost....do you buy your FF? and who is Bakers?

So just for the record City, are you buying already fermented feed? Or are you talking about the organic feed you buy that you ferment yourself? I think this is what littlechiken is confused about.Yes we order online then pick it up at a nursery called BAKERS.. It is in phx..

kpgoldstar, your fly bag is probably reeking pretty well now, so this is moot...but I noticed mine emitting stench 1-2 days later. It takes a while to work up the reek.
I spread the Arbico fly eliminator yesterday. In a week or two, I will report back.
Misters for chickens--what is the appropriate height to set up misters in the run? I've been hesitant to do it, but I'm setting up my drip irrigation again, and might as well see if I can hook up a mister or two in the chicken run.
I buy the Rescue brand disposable fly traps. Flies are a big problem here, it is not just my birds---I have several close by neighbors who have multiple horses. 5 or 6 horses on the one property, and also a cow. I get mine at valleyvet.com, 24 at a time, comes to $3.69 each with free shipping. As soon as one slows down in catching flies, I hang another one nearby but leave the first one up.
When the weather is cool, they catch more if you hang them in the sun, then reverse that when the weather gets hot.
The one big mistake I made was last year, I took all the dried flies and scattered them in the pens for the chickens. I figured good protein, right? Well I have been having tapeworm problems. My birds don't free range, so they are not getting that many bugs, only the few foolish enough to venture into a chicken pen. I read in The Chicken Health Handbook that houseflies are an intermediate host for one species of tapeworm. I suspect the flies I gave them. There was a 5-gal bucket 1/2 filled with dried flies, collected over many months: imagine how many flies that was?? So do yourself and your birds a favor and throw those fly traps away when full.
