Here is 2 pictures of my 1 day old Marin chicks from the previous Sunday! :D
I placed these two babies with some green shells wrapped around them and stuffed them underneath my brooding Americauna while I pulled out her last ceramic egg that she was trying to hatch. She decided she wasn't going to hatch to anymore eggs after she saw the chicks!

How long did you wait to put the chicks under her?

Here is the info on the Tucson meeting. I cannot go as my husband gets off work at 7pm and we only have one vehicle so I will write an email..... This will NOT let you download the PDF I will post it.

Tonight it the night! Don't forget to attend - if you can't, send emails. Remember, this is the FIRST step -- there will be public hearings at the Planning Commission and then at Mayor and Council after the draft is finalized. Tonight is our opportunity to provide input about the draft so the best possible proposal goes forward. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Our eggs have started hatching! When I went out this morning this is what I saw
400

They weren't due to hatch for two more days.
She has 7 more eggs. How long should I wait now before removing the eggs that don't hatch so I am assured she will take care of the chicks?
She seems to be doing a great job, I had to hand feed her as she would go 3 days before coming off the nest. For such a young lady (30 weeks) I am impressed that she is such a good momma.

I'll be at the Tucson meeting tonight.

Back from a 4-day trip and all the chickens are fine. Guess they figured out the water cups after all!

Those brahma cockerels are total jerks. They are going to be processed this weekend. In fact, I think I'm going to do a couple tomorrow night--I'm so done with them and their blasted...maleness. Happened fast, hormones must have kicked in.

We had a few come early too. :jumpy
Have you candled any of the others yet? If not do it at night.. Then we remove the eggs that have not progressed.. Give her 1 more week. Our girls stayed on the nest with the new chicks for about 7-10 days. We have a incubator ready by hatch day. If something goes wrong we can finish the hatch, then put the new babies under her at night.. We do put water & feed close to them... It will all be good.. :thumbsup

Awesome! Thank you, I already candled at day 18, just yesterday and removed all that weren't fully dark. There were 8 left. I will move the water and food closer so that she does not need to get off the nest to get it and give her a week.
This is my first hatch and even though the broody is doing all the hard work I wanted to know what to expect.
Thank you!
