It's a great synopsis and sounds like there are a lot of loopholes in it. For instance, it says it doesn't apply yo breeders. Well, if I'm hatching and raising my own, from my own flock, that should make me a breeder.

Yes, that part is correct. But you can't sell them from your home. So how can it be a home business if you have to have a store?

here is the city ordinance as it reads now in Tucson

Here is the ordinance that appears in the Tucson CIty Coe: Sec. 4-8. Sale of animals at swap meets and public property prohibited; sale of baby chickens, ducklings or young rabbits forbidden; exceptions; penalties.
(a) It shall be unlawful to display or offer for sale, trade, gift or other transfer of ownership or to make a sale, trade, gift or otherwise transfer any animal including birds and reptiles on or from any public street, roadway, right-of-way, sidewalk, park or swap meet.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to sell or to give away baby chickens or ducklings under six (6) weeks of age or rabbits under two (2) months of age in less than half- dozen lots as premiums, novelties, prizes, pets or toys, for the promotion of any business, sale, activity or other promotional use.
(c) Exceptions. Subsection (a) shall not prohibit the sale, gift or other transfer of ownership of animals at activities or events that are regulated by other state or county agencies. Subsection (b) shall not be considered to prohibit the sale of display of baby chickens or ducklings or rabbits in proper facilities that comply with the provisions of any sanitary code, or other rules and regulations of the board of health, by breeders and those engaged in the business of selling for commercial breeding and raising purposes. Subsections (a) and (b) of this section shall not prohibit the use of off-site signs or advertising, to the extent such signs or advertising are otherwise permitted.
(d) Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor.
(e) Penalties. A violation of any provision of this section is punishable by a fine of not more than three hundred dollars ($300.00) for any person. Each day such violation continues shall constitute a separate offense.

I am not in Tucson, but the code clearly states that sale of chicks/rabbits/ducklings are prohibited only on public property OR as a promotional gift/sale. So you can't put a sign up on your sidewalk advertising chicks for sale, but you can sell or give them away on your property.

Hi Nancy, it's good to see you back.

Could you plant a some kind of vine on the south and west sides of your enclosure to help with the shade? Let us know how the portable cooler works for you.

Thanks for the wb. I have shade cloth on the upper part of the gazebo, on the west and south and part of the east sides. Poplar trees on the west. I know the cooler won't cool the whole pen, but decided it would at least give them a cool spot to stand around and cool down some. Thinking about climbing roses, maybe?? Might be too hot for them tho'. I do have that bouganvilla that is waiting for me to move off the deck and into the ground. It's really pretty, but is it chicken safe? Have to research that.

Good, the bouganvilla is really pretty and would look awesome all over the gazebo. The one I bought has both fuschia and gold flowers. The hummingbirds have found it already. I really didn't want to go as far as buying that swamp cooler, but we are already getting 108+ temps and when the heat inside the gazebo climbed up to 100, I started getting worried about the girls. The mister worked some, but only knocked a couple degrees off.

My first time with chickens and I want them to survive the heat and give me nice eggs in the fall. They are going on 12 weeks and looking good. I "think" one is not a girl. No crowing yet, but seems to be strutting. LOL Sure is fun. And this site is amazing with so much valuable information. Thanks to all of you who share your experience and expertise with the rest of us.

I kind of use a combination of these. I already have a bit of slope, so I have good drainage, with a deep litter of compost and pine shavings. Since my run is roofed over, I get some of those cheap Harbor Freight tarps and staple them to the inside of the rafters. I can live with the humidity, but all the rain is going in the neighbors yard!
