I have 24 adult quail and 45 chicks I'm growing out. Crazy. Some will be future breeders, others egg producers or freezer fodder. I might even sell a few. We'll be glad to have you when you get here. When is the official move? If you can hold out til our Az summer is over, I would. Lol. The other 8 months are GREAT. I didn't know Glendale doesn't allow chickens?
Wow look at those things grow. How many do you keep?

I take DE once a year for a few weeks. I just mix it in whatever I'm drinking everyday. It's gritty but do-able.So good your doing ok.. I will put up the D.E. link again.. It will clen out your intestines... There is also another formula a naturopath doctor told a friend.. I will ask & post that as well...
Congrats on the new peeps! That Delaware is BEAUTIFUL!Well we made it back from Tucson seeing Desertmarcy and picking up 2 chicks. We drove through rain and a dust storm like I have never seen before. At one point I was driving 5 mph and could see maybe 10 feet in front of me. A little scary but we made it. The girls were calm and just relaxed in the crates the whole way home. We got a year old Delaware "Muriel" and a 4 1/2 month old Black Copper Maran "Charlie" both girls don't let the name fool ya. They are getting along nicely with Rachel and Monica our other two chicks. While we miss Phoebe it is nice that all the girls are getting along. We do have to keep Charlie separated from the older chicks when we are not out in the back yard since she is smaller but they are beautiful birds. As you can see Muriel is making herself at home in the coop.

Commercial yogurts as SO expensive! Plus they are full of crap our bodies don't need. Better to make your own yogurt or better yet kefir. Easy, cheap and no garbage. We have been lucky lately that we have two sources of raw goat milk to drink or make kefir with. So much better than pasturized factory farmed milk.Inquiring guts want to know...![]()
It can be tricky.. Sometimes it is easy.. What is funny about probiotics is that commercial for yougart. Activa, it is really craptivia.. Stool softener...![]()

They sure can! Quail are much calmer than most chickens and are child sized. While they are not especially big on being picked up they are friendly even without much human interaction. Oh and those cute little eggs are super fun kid food.Welcome to BYC!prayers for successful hatchlings!![]()
..... Yumm! I want some fish too!
there might be a farmers market near you. However you might try a diapering the chickens and have the kids play musical chickens as you drive from Washington to AZ, lol! ..,, It might be a fun experience or maybe Not!

Nice to have that windmill to do the pumping! And less to go wrong with it than an electric pump. Do you have to worry about periods with no wind?I have several used stock tanks and old wash tubs that I use to garden in and one is a pond with carp and lily ponds. Have an old windmill that keeps the water circulating so I don't need an electric water pump. Chickens love to gather round the base where it's cool and make dust baths up close. Part of it is in the shade. Because of an abundance of rabbits in my area I need to elevate my garden. On the one hand I don't have to deal with any chicken predators but, on the other hand, due to the absence of predators, we have an over abundance of rabbits, lots of roadrunners, gophers, mice - which my chickens like to eat - and a lot of bull snakes or gopher snakes - same difference.
