Arizona Chickens

Yes. You can treat it with antibiotics but it will always be a carrier which is why breeders are encouraged, and in some states forced, to cull. I don't know what our state law is on this, will have to delve deeper.

Are there any particular breeds involved or is it a mixed bag?

Poor Stubby. The rain must've been pelting sideways because her cage, which was under the porch, filled with water. She was in about 4" water and sitting as she can't stand up well because of the Marek's. I have her wrapped up in a towel in my lap.

So today between rain storms I went out and checked the chickens. All the big hens are out in the back yard under a big mesquite. I was doing a basic check to make sure they were all there... 2 Brahamas, check. 4 Wheatens, check. 2 Ameracauna Roosters, check and on down the line to the 2 Barred Rocks. I count one two three. Wait was that one the cuckoo Maran? Nope she is with her buddies. One two three WTH? Somehow I acquired a barred Rock cockrel.

Raining roos this morning?

I've been cleaning up since 5 this morning. Got over 4" according to the rain gauge. The youngsters apparently were in a low spot, didn't look low until today with all the water. They were all on the highest roost with the water about 2" below them. Had to pick them up one at a time & relocate to the hay barn until the coop I use for isolation purposes got prepped. Found out gophers dug through part of my berm causing the flooding into the youngster's coop. Fixed the berm & I was soaked to the skin by the time I was done. DH picked a great time to fly out for a business trip. More clean up awaits me but the chickens all seemed to be enjoying the rain. The polish look especially funny soaking wet!

Darn gophers, we have a carin terrier that will take care of them for you.. Soaked to the bone for sure.. My family slept threw the whole thunderstorm. My DH heard the thunder, it did wake him up.. But then I told him I could take care of it.. He works all week, I took off a day this week for clean up.. Plus the boys will help.. Mud, mud, mud..
