Arizona Chickens

So I was finally able to re-home the breeds I am not going to focus on and move all my Ameraucana's  and split them into their own coops per variety (BBS, Wheaten, Buff). Then I have my NN and my Polish crested separated into their own coops. all the random breeds are free ranging with the ducks and geese. So far this is working. NOW if the girls will resume laying so I can start hatching eggs I will be excited,

I am supposed to go get eggs this weekend and try out my new incubator but my fuel pump went out in my van. Hopefully we can get it fixed tomorrow.

My kids are also starting 4-H. We had the first community club meeting last Monday. My youngest is doing Robotics, Rocketry, Poultry, cooking and shouting sports and my oldest is doing Arts (drawing), shooting sports, dogs and hopefully poultry. I used to be in 4-H as a kid and I am excited to get the boys into it. I think I will be running in circles!!!!    :cd       This combined with being the president of the booster club for their school and my diaper cake/ wedding cake business that I am trying to get off the ground and my poultry that I am seriously thinking of showing...... I think I will be busy!!

We do want to put as many things in our life as we can. I need to say NO to things, but it is hard..

I think I've decided not to place an order.  I found a feed store that will be getting chicks from Ideal on the 25th.  I only want 3 or 4 so I'll probably just get them there and just get whatever they have.  I hope they get BAs, they are my favorite.

I just saw 5 week old BA pullets in a feed store here in Tucson.

I grew up in Old Lyme, CT! And I spent some summer vacations in Beverly Farms, MA.

I was born just outside of Boston but grew up in Worcester and then we moved to the western part of the state when my dad began teaching at Mount Hermon School for Boys (but we still spent a lot of time in Boston, because my second cousin owned the Red Sox in the 70s). We stayed in MA until 1988, then moved to Yakima, WA with the 3 kids, and then, as empty-nesters, moved here in 2004. And we still haven't found an area where we want to retire!!

Anyone know the best time to over seed the grass with rye? I always seem to get it in too late so it's germination in cold weather and takes too long, or too early and it just fries.

Watch for closure announcements from the local golf courses - they will typically close for 2-3 weeks when they overseed, and they know better than anyone when is the best time for your area!

Me neither. I like it here but don't love it here. Winters are great but summers are brutal and confining. I am thinking Hawaii. Warm weather, grass, and the ocean. Works for me.
