Arizona Chickens

Thanks for the suggestions! You know, I really haven't done my due diligence with researching the eating of moringa, just the growing. I would imagine the pods would have to be young, the large ones gotta be stringy and tough, they're nearly 1" in diameter and almost 2' long. I just saw a tortoise eating a young pod so I tried it and it wasn't too bad. I'll try cooking some of the newer tender pods since they probably won't make it to maturity at this point anyway.
I think for a first try, I would slice and steam them, kinda like zucchini slices. After a first trial, you could figure out appropriate seasonings, or not.

Not quite on eating the Moringa topic; I'd like to know which of these two Black Copper Maran roosters seem like the better one to keep for later on mating? Keep in mind the one with the most orange on him has the no crow, " Roo Collar, " on him in the picture. Thanks! !!:D

Sweet cant wait to see them, the white breed looks like a leghorn.. They are suppose to be for meat, I hear they lay well.. What have you heard about them..

I have heard that the meat has amazing flavor. Most people caponize them and raise them on fermented grains and goat milk. Then they sell them for a ton of money.

Depending on their age, #1 looks like too much copper (for a young cockerel). They usually get more copper with age. Looking at small pics on my phone, but #2 looks pretty decent.
(But I'd probably keep both!)

You should post on the Black Copper Marans thread for opinions. #2 is too dark. Can't see their combs well enough. Check them both for sprigs, #1's comb looked suspicious but I can't tell from the photo. For better evaluation shots, make sure they are in focus and get shots from side, top and front at a minimum. Look and see what color their under fluff is. It should be black, not white.

Does anyone know a reputable place in the east valley to get a silkie hen? We decided to keep our little rooster (thanks to the no crow collar!), and I am thinking of finding him a girlfriend more his size.
He chases around my NN hen but she just runs from him. Will he be able to mount my other hens since they are all standard size?
Will the ladies get used to him and let him mount eventually? He's only been trying for about 2 weeks.
So far he has been great! He even protected one of the 6 day old chicks when it got separated from momma this morning :) after only having hens and pullets it nice to have a cockerel to observe and learn from.

A friend of mine had a silkie roo & he was always mounting her RIR & BO hens so I don't think your little guy will have problems in the near future.

That's great to know, hopefully with time the girls will get use to him. It seems like he has his heart set on one of my NN and only goes after her right now ( we have 14 hens and 3 pullets). She runs away and hides in the coop. I'm guessing it will take some time to adjust. I'm not necessarily looking for fertile eggs, just a happy roo. He is so friendly I am hoping he stays that way. He allows the kids to pick him up and smother him, my daughter is thrilled to be able to keep him since we live in the burbs, but the no crow collar works way better than I expected.
