Arizona Chickens

I will go wherever I need to go honestly, but I will be from West Phx to South Mountain area. But after traveling that far, another 30 mins to an hour is not a problem lol. My husband sells cars and its possible we might be shopping and we will go all over Phoenix looking at cars anyway.

In the west valley there's Dales Town and Country. I like the Stock Shop and my new favorite place is that Ace on Gilbert Rd. in Chandler.

These are 3 French Bresse that "Tiny" our jungle fowl is raising in the front yard. The one on the right has blue splash mixed, the other all grey one is a bit lighter, then finally the one standing up has a chipmunk stipe on her head..

I saw them & they are so cute! Tiny is a fierce mama! When your boys were rounding up the ducks, if either a duck or boy got too close to her chicks she'd launch herself at them. I found it funny since Tiny is so tiny!

She is a great Moma.. The "French Bresse" say in order to have them be called "French" they have to be completely free range, otherwise they are called "American Bresse" those French, huh!!
It's really is weird how it just happened, timing and all.. Plus jungle fowl are smarter than your average chicken.. :lau cracking myself up!

I just set 5 Bresse eggs last night. I think mine are white but I'm not sure. They were bonus eggs from a lady in NC.

Sweet cant wait to see them, the white breed looks like a leghorn.. They are suppose to be for meat, I hear they lay well.. What have you heard about them..

I can just see the teacher tying to chase down a frightened quail, from those excited kids...what kid will listen to the teacher, " no, you can't hold them yet"
With our kids I always used reverse psychology, " sure, yeah, go ahead, put your hand in the fire. I have time for the hospital now" they look at me like I'm crazy..
Quail chicks are actually quiet calm. They have been domesticated so long they have no sense of self preservation. Plus the newly hatch chicks will imprint on the kids if they handle them right away.

Where do you plan on putting more trees? Front yard? And what are you wanting?
In the back yard and the chickens' run. Trees I'm hoping to get are Fuyu persimon, dwarf fruiting mulberry, dwarf or standard nectarine, Li or Sugar Cane jubube, and maybe some fruiting vines like Tompson seedles grape, Sonoran passion vine and blackberries

If your interested, Tropical Mango in Apache Junction has all sorts of rare fruit trees and the owner/caretaker is one of the few people in those situations that I actually believe what he says. There is also a Shamus Oleary(sp) on face book based out of Phx that does the same. Never been there due to the hours open, usually only on Sundays.
I went there last weekend. They have an impressive number of hard to find varieties of plants but their prices were way more than I can afford. Their five gallon trees were $70-98 each.

Don't forget about our SEED EXCHANGE this Saturday

Both, BYC seed box mostly. Neighbors are invited to join in.. We have a party for the whole neighborhood, we invite others to join in to see how community gets involved with eachother. We have a sign up sheet for the National Wildlife Federation. I will post a photo of the plaque later.. We talk garden, safety Blablabla.. Lots of food and drink.. It is really a community party.. I am hoping our friiends that sell the AZOMITE will be there to help explain how amazing it is. & I have mentioned before, our neighborhood has so many chicken owners, even if they don't garden they love to talk chicken. The BYC seed box will be on a table as you walk in the BIG RED front door.. I think someone took the fireplace we donated. So we will do a gathering here once our frontyard patio is done.. roasted marshmallow's... SMORES
Are you able to make it? Also, anyone else?

I would like to attend, will see if I can drag my husband with.

I've been wanting to get some of the Azomite but don't want a huge bag of it. It will be interesting to hear what they have to say about it.

that's a lot for a 5-gal tree, even if they are rarer. Be aware that jujubes will send out runners and sprout new trees along the roots and you will end up with a grove unless you keep them cut down. And the sprouts will be from the rootstock, not the named variety. It took mine probably about 20 years before this happened, but I've got really bad soil, so may have taken the tree longer to send it's roots out as far as it did. I let a few of the sprouts grow that were farther away from the mother tree. The fruit on them is small, about an inch long. Bite sized, they keep well and make a nice snack to take along hiking.
