Possible for what? Did I miss something you said Rufus? *flips through old pages*

He said they probably won't hatch if it gets above 104. I've been all upset because we've been, what, 108?

But he might be partly right if that is the only one that hatches.

... I need to make a solar fly trap now!

That's right, I forgot....but the hen's body temp wont raise more than a degree above normal in the heat---so she would be acting like a reverse cooler or insulator. She owould be sheilding the eggs from the heat.

That makes sense. I remember reading a study that human babies can be cooled (as well as warmed, obviously) through skin-to-skin contact.

This one is from the egg labeled ExLeg... (that stands for Exchequer Leghorn, not Extra Leg)

I HOPE the weather doesn't stop my eggs from hatching... I've got 8 under a broody due in 2 weeks. And I did hatch out 5/5 with another broody 1 week ago, which was pretty hot already. I like the idea of the hen "cooling" the eggs.

She's in shade all day, as are all of them-- but everybody's panting after noon. Even the chicks. Is that a really bad sign? They have water and shade, but still it's hot-- surely panting is a normal way to cool themselves off? I have a baby pool in their run with an inch of water in it... I'll go throw in some ice cubes.

I have no idea what thread I just stumbled upon, but it seems it's about puke, so I'll skip reading all about it:) I already have 3 kids.

Does anyone know of any AZ breeders that are NPIP and MG free? Did I say that right? I know there are hatcheries that participate in NPIP but I don't know about the MG. What is everyone else's experience? Yes, I am new at the chicken thing, but I agree with Speckeledhen's philosophy on this kind of thing. I really don't want to have to put any pet chicken and yes, they are all pets by now, but I also am not doing this to give animals meds. I just want fresh, healthy eggs for my family and that includes not medicating my birds for things that I have no clue what they are. So does anyone have any thoughts? Comments about where I can get these types of chicks? I do not have an incubator. And i doubt my dear hubby will buy one for my hobby.
