Arizona Chickens

Just got 3 more little Easter Eggers. The feed store has them listed as Americaunas....... but you know how that goes. The 6 1/2 month old girls, 1 EE and 2 RSL haven't laid yet. But we had a LOT of coyotes yipping in the yard for over a month, every night. Then the temps dropped. Last night Javelinas came in and destroyed all the flowers, knocked over the Cherub statue, ect...... They are in a smaller chain link fenced yard next to the house AND in their own coop & run...... but they don't know they are safe. Hope they lay soon...... I know I know........ this summer I'll have eggs all over. But besides married kids and their kids..... we LOVE pickled eggs....... :) and cookies......... LOL make our own dog cookies too. Granddaughter has picked out the middle one as hers and named her Buttermilk, the other light one is Nugget and the dark one is Teriyaki. The older 3 are Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. DH named them. Says they will go on the smoker if they don't start laying...... :)
It will be nice having all different ages of laying hens.. I wish they did understand English, or any language & start laying for ya.. they better listen to pops

I have 1 large black silkie rooster(Ted) 1 small buff silkie rooster (Buckbeak) 1 white silkie rooster with a single comb (snowball) 1 brown red ameraucana rooster (blackbeard) 1 blue wyandotte hen (polly) 2 buff silkie hens (carly and karly) 1 white laced red cornish hen (banshee) and 1 red/buff easter egger hen with some silkie ancestry (pretty girl). the black silkie rooster is in his own cage the buff one is in a pen with my three geese and the rest of the chickens reside in the chicken coop which could fit a few more chickens no problem. my geese are scared of chickens because of my ameraucana rooster one day he jumped and kicked my big gander away who was trying to bite the ameraucanas tail feathers... i also have 1 chinese button quail (rusty), a male and a female kingsnake (tartarus and calypso) , a young night snake, a koi (spot) a female tarantula (rosy) and a puppy ( angel) my geese are  a chinese pair (chitter and patches) and a pomeranian (chatter) chitter and chatter are under a year old and were raised together patches was rescued from the local overpopulated duck ponds and is an unknown age

What a great place you must have..I tell the local kids to bring treats, & if they want to pet it is $1.00
Just kidding.. Post photos soon..

Sounds like a big property and a full time job cleaning up dung.. :woot

I have two Americaunas from idealpoultry.com that are 27+ weeks and not laying yet. One has been squatting for 3-4 weeks and the other is not. Do they mature more slowly? My flock (first flock ever) are all the same age though spread across 6 breeds. Five of my nine are laying this far. Still waiting on my silver laced Wyandotte, the two Americaunas, and my red sexlink or gold sexlink... Not sure which isn't paying rent yet.

Moringa seeds! I hope a few of them make it to Tucson

When egg production drops I start reading them recipes. The chickens seem to understand "stew" and "dumplings" because egg production usually increases shortly afterward.
