Arizona Chickens

Thank you for the wave! :) I can do smiles with a colon and parenthases.

Oh yes, lots of reading! Thanks to BYC I will be an academic expert if not a practical one which, I am sure, makes a huge difference as well.

I have a dream and it is still in the beginning phases. It is a lo...o...ong term plan. I am budgeting now so I can save and buy a house on at least an acre just outside the city. I have the income but my credit needs some pretty stuff on it and I need a down payment. Once I move my rent turned mortgage payment will drop considerably. I could probably have chickens where I am at now but I am being very self-diciplined and saving my money for the better dream.

In the meanwhile, I will root and cheer everyone here on and leanr, learn, learn. I already have plans forming for "the cheapest and most beautiful coop ever", lol.

There is always tons of free stuff on craigs list..

Hey everyone, long time no talk! I've had a lot going on with new animals, building new pens, predators, and this crazy weather! We got quite a bit of snow here, the ckickens didn't get to play in it but the goats for to take a walk in it and they didn't know what to think lol. In terms of new animals I got a Serama hen and a ffair pig. My barred Marans are doing good (still need to get rid of the two boys if anyone is looking) but a raccoon got to my guineas, my hound tracked it to the wash by my house and lost the trail, but it hasn't been back so I'm hoping we scared it away. I'm also building a new pen for Seramas/other bantams I might get.
Also happy new year everyone!

Beer is way better than champagne !! Some day home brew for me..

Brewed an Old English ale today. Should come in around 7.5% and malty.

The new girls are all starting to make big girl chicken noises now. I figure they're about 4 months at this point. They enjoyed their brew grain nice and warm today. They were scared of the steam coming off it though. Silly birds.

Eat your heart out, my latest culinary experiment just came out of the oven, a bleu cheese cheesecake with a pecan, parmesan, and honey crust. Have to let it cool overnight, so won't know how it tastes 'til manana!

They are black javas. I set 15 eggs. 8 were fertile. 5 developed enough to go into the hatcher. 4 chicks hatched. I got behind on the renovation project for my main brooder outside, so they are still in the small brooder in the house. I am going to have to figure out how to cover it soon because they will be up and out of it in another day or two.

I haven't seen any signs of snow here in Tucson. 20 minutes til midnight. I've been watching ESPN all night.

I was at a friend's house in the foothills. We had snowball fights. I had to scrape almost an inch of snow off my windshield before I drove home.

Yep, drank some Tadcaster Oatmeal Stout, and some Taddy Porter last night. If you can find either one of these, they are very smooth dark beers. (Hint: try at Sprouts, or sometimes Safeway).

Thanks!

We now have a Sprouts about 45 minutes away, pretty close considering where we live and I want to go check it out! Now I have a really good reason!
