Arizona Chickens

Staying up here watching for more snow fall and listening to the police rush to ruin people's fun.

No snow here in Tempe, but lot's of great neighbors & friend's..No idiots or stupid people to make the police rush.. They rush when some idiot decides to do something that would hinder all of us having a good time. Got to have a designated person..Most of the officers we see are just standing around waiting for a drunkin stuper to pull a stunt. Hope they do stop that person that ruins it for others.. Happy new years chicken folk...

Eat your heart out, my latest culinary experiment just came out of the oven, a bleu cheese cheesecake with a pecan, parmesan, and honey crust. Have to let it cool overnight, so won't know how it tastes 'til manana!

It's 4:30AM and 20 degrees in my backyard at 33rd

Ug, I for see a lot of burst pipes in the immediate future. My moringa tree isn't looking so good and my tomatoes/ squash are barely hanging on but other than that things are good. Had to finally turn the heater on to bring the temperature in the house back in the 60's, that's rare. Where do we live again?????

Agh, you reminded me of my moringa from @Sill.. Just ran out and it is fine.. :celebrate
The other from @Gallo del Cielo we will have to wait and see.. In order to transport from Tucson, it was cut to fit into my car. Hope it made it from last night freeze.. It was under a tree with running water.. No pipe's bursting here. Had them all on a trickle..
. Now that our van is done I will be able to put more plant's or chickens... :weee

Honey crust! :woot

ok, here it is!

BLUE CHEESE CHEESECAKE (by Norma Sprung, Ashland, Oregon)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. This recipe is for a 9 x 13 baking dish, 20-24 servings.

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups toasted walnuts (or pecans), finely chopped.
1 1/2 ounces grated parmesan cheese
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 Tbs melted butter (I used 4 Tbs)
honey (to drizzle over crust)
1 cup sour cream
20 ounces cream cheese at room temperature (2 1/2 packages)
5 ounces blue cheese crumbles
3 eggs
black pepper

CRUST:
Combine nuts, parmesan, sugar and butter, mix well.
Grease baking pan and press in the nut mixture to form a crust.
Bake for 15 minutes.
Drizzle honey over crust after baking (before adding filling).

FILLING:

Beat eggs in large bowl.
Combine cream cheese, sour cream, eggs, and about 3/4 of the blue cheese, beat until smooth.
Add remaining blue cheese and stir gently (this will give you a chunkier texture).
Pour into baked crust, bake for 20-30 minutes until center is set and top takes on a golden color.
Allow to cool on wire rack, then refrigerate until firm.

TO SERVE:
Drizzle top lightly with honey and grind some black pepper over the top.

ENJOY!

I actually got two eggs the other day! One was the marans egg, the other must have been the fully-recovered-from-molt-barred rock's egg--but both of my barred rocks have brown eggs with heavy speckling. This egg was pinkish with not one speckle. The egg was full-sized and in the nest box, which points to a current layer, but I'm kinda wondering whether one of the buff orpingtons or australorps finally laid an egg. Ya know, doing a search on egg color, I really think it may have been a buff orpington egg! Fantastic! Er, excuse me...how EGGCITING!!
