That was me! Your schnauzer with the cropped ears and my boy look like twins-- I actually had to do a double-take. So glad it's working out! My dogs hang with the adult girls even unsupervised now. I've seen them get their butts kicked my my top hen, so I'm no longer worried. I was even shocked to find out they didn't bother my new chicks! They were interested of course, but Broody gave them both a scolding and they stay far away now. I'd never let them near the chicks unsupervised, but it's nice to know if the dogs got out things would probably be fine.
I thought they looked a lot alike also, but mine is a female and doesn't have cropped ears(must be a trick of the light.) I'm not as worried about her with the chickens. She has a healthy respect for who is the boss.
The other one is bigger than the normal size for a min. schnauzer(26 lb.) and not quite as true to "schnauzer personality". She was a rescue, and while she's a great dog and we love her dearly, she's a little sneaky and knows exactly when she can do whatever she wants to.
That's exactly what I was worried about - them getting out and something happening before I could stop it. Now, at least, I can relax a little.
We actually used to breed my schnauzers... you didn't buy her from a breeder about 5 years ago in Gilbert did you? That would be crazy if she was one of our pups-- we only had 3 litters so what are the chances? That's funny-- my boy thinks he's a retriever. He doesn't care about anything but chasing the ball. It's my girl who I worried about with the chickens... but when the first one turned around and pecked her on the nose she decided chickens weren't so fun after all. LOL.
