Arizona Chickens

@moms3cuties , here is an update on the pen construction. Please ignore all the tools and material debris, it is a work in progress!

This pic is of the north side

and this is the south side.....

east side....

and the view from my bedroom window.

The next pen will go up on the south side (the left side of the pic above). All it takes is time and money!

Looking great

I just came in from outside on the front patio. I heard a rustling in the olive tree overhead, looked and there was that gray fox coming down. I watched it run off, climb the chain link fence, and run down towards the wash. I guess he/she decided it was safer to sleep up in the tree instead of on my roof since last time I pulled he down from the roof!

Whoa! Well that's unnerving!

So, is this fox the critter that's been trying to dig into your pens?

I doubt it. I think that was a coyote or bobcat or neighborhood dog. This fox has been hanging around here for months. No inside the fence pens have any attempted digs, only the ones that have an outside fence. What I mean is, my yard is fenced and some pens face inside the fenced yard but a couple of them have an outside perimeter fence. That's where the digging was.

Congratulations on your first egg! I remember how excited I was. My chicken math has turned to rabbit math. I have been trying my hand at a few different things in my back yard before choosing where I want to retire and decide what type of animals i want to have around me. Everything I am doing is on a much smaller scale than many of you have. I currently live in an HOA neighborhood. Our neighbor says when they hear mooing, they are calling the people with the white jackets. We moved here 10 years ago from new york. The neighbors want to know where their city neighbor went. I told them she found her happy place

Sending good thoughts your way. This is the hardest part, isn't it? I think I developed new ulcers during my first egg lockdown and when days 21 and 22 came and went without a pip I just about had a breakdown. So when my hubby woke me up at 3:00 a.m.a on day 23 to tell me there were two chicks flopping around the incubator I wasn't the least bit upset at the sleep interruption and nearly wept with relief. We are a rare and wonderful breed, us chicken lovers.
