Arizona Chickens

Near by, the place was called Green Lawn. You lived in Unionville? Like near Kennett Square?? Small world! When did you live there? I moved out here in 1978, so it's been a while. My brothers still live in Kennett.

I don't remember Green Lawn. I only lived in Chester County for two years. Actually I live in the city of West Chester, but I worked at Practical Horseman when their editorial offices were in Unionville, in the Doe Run area. I had my horse out there for awhile, then I had him closer into town. I loved it. i wish I could move back.

I think that was just a local name. We lived close to Doe Run until I was in 5th grade, then we moved to Kennett. I loved it out there as a kid. It has been so long, I don't remember exactly the street we lived off of. I am trying to find it on Google Earth but getting confused. And of course things have changed so much. Back then, hardly any of those back roads had street signs. You really needed to know where you were going. It is funny that you and I had the same old haunts. My mother got her Master's degree in West Chester. My best friend lived about 15 min. from West Chester, about 1/2 way between there and where we moved near Kennett. We used to ride our bikes all over that countryside.

I would not want to live there now. I am such an outdoors person. Lyme disease is rampant in that part of the country. It is carried by deer ticks. Look up the range of Lyme disease and you will see that part of the country is in the red zone. It is a horrible disease that can produce a chronic illness and is frequently misdiagnosed. My brother told me about 80% or more of the locals living around there are positive for Lyme antibodies. I am glad we do not have to worry about it out here.

I went to the Maricopa County Fair today and checked out the agricultural exhibits. Lots of beautiful animals that are well cared for. It is inspiring to see so many young people so involved in the raising/showing of these animals. Some of the animals were huge. There were some beautiful specimen in the poultry section.

I'm looking for a new home for my Bielfelder cockerel. He's used to wearing a no-crow collar which keeps his crows much quieter than without so he is quieter than the hens but he does sound like a rooster and as he is growing up his frequency of crowing is increasing. I don't want the neighbors complaining. He's a big gentle boy at 5 months old. He's already mating, feeding and dancing for the girls. I've seen him give aerial predator warnings and the hens either freeze or run for cover. He is good around dogs, cats, people and of course the hens. PM me if you are interested.

The Dude at 4 months old.

My childhood home is Old Lyme, CT. Yep, the place it is named for.

Hi everyone. I reside in Phoenix. Central Phoenix to be exact. I have two baby chicks, a black sex link and a amerecauna. I'm new to this chicken raising, so I'll def be following this thread to get info on how to raise chickens in this hot & dry weather. Thanks!
