Arizona Chickens

I recently had to dig up the septic system on the new house. After re-burying the excavation (at least partially reburied!) I sprinkled a couple handfuls of black oil sunflower seeds I had bought as chicken treats. They are now starting to bloom!

Oh that is too cool... I am going to have to do that next year..

Mine were the $5 ones from Walmart. They work great but draw more so for me, I have less when I don't use anything than when I use them. My backyard is small so I can't keep the traps far from my home.
Mine are out in the yard where the flies tend to spend the hot part of the day under big trees. Still waiting for my new baby fly predators to emerge so I can release them. I have to be sneaky and hide the cocoons well, to many hungry birds of all types would love to snack on them

Holy Moly! Long thread, lol. Just wanted to jump in and say I'm in Queen Creek, have a pretty good small scale breeding program, if anyone ever needs any help with anything, questions about breeding/incubating, how to work on your car or weld some steel together, feel free to hit me up. :)
What kind of welding do you do? Have you made trellises or arbors?

The year is still young...

Kind of cool, but I hope they don't endanger the old trees getting their tissue samples. The cuts can be sites for infection or insect invasion.

@DesertChic you were interested in my Ameraucana chicks. I have 6 blue and 2 black extra. They just hatched 4/27. And @FeatherPugs I only got 2 pullets from the black sexlinked cross (Ameraucana X Rhode Island Red) hatch from yesterday: one has just a few leg and foot feathers, the other has clean legs and feet. PM me if interested in any of these.
@desertmarcy - I have seven chicks now so I better pass BUT if you do some fall chicks Barred Rock cross for some lovely darker eggs then keep me in mind.

@Sill oh yeah I agree..
On another note, look what is still ALIVE!! OH, KAY... :th

After just water with Root's, & just dirt, & root's with water THEN root hormone..Which none of these attempts were successful... I cut off the dead part and going to try just root hormone!!! If nothing else we are heading back to Tucson!! I love this plant, the smell and the use of it! It is probably going to do best in just water.. So if this does not work, I will cut off what is left & attempt to do just water.. It was a bit awkward in a glass jar.. I had to prop it up, & harvesting it almost fell down... Anyho.. Hope to have some to share someday.. Or a trip to see @Gallo del Cielo
Unless someone else has some of this Cuban oregano??

Hay, does anyone know where the seed box is??

I have been Off line for a bit.. What 7 are new? Breeds I mean.. How have you been feeling?

Ya all know that my family tells me to stop bringing plant's home..
Well, AND chicken's..
Do seed's & bulbs count? :lau

I would vote no, they don't count. After all, they are only POTENTIAL plants, kinda like eggs are only POTENTIAL chickens. I think this is an excellent strategy for sneaking in under the radar. When it blooms, "What, that old thing? I've had that for months!"

Hi Everyone!

I don't post over here on the AZ thread very often, but wanted to post and say if anyone needs hatching eggs, I have a glut of eggs right now, and would be happy to donate some FREE to BYC'ers. So, if you have broody hen, or want to fire up the incubator and practice hatching, or just want some Aloha chickens, please contact me.

My flock includes Speckled Sussex, Buff Sussex, (and crosses) and my Alohas, which are small (Leghorn size) mixed breed containing Exchequer Leghorn, New Hampshire Red, Sussex, Swedish, a teeny dash of Buff Orp and Buff Rock, and probably some Old English Game. Very good layers, very good in our heat.

I have an ad up selling hatching eggs, but if someone comes to my door I want to sell them the FRESHEST eggs possible. Right now I have many dozens that are reaching 4-5 days old. These would be free for hatching, please message me if interested. I will feed them back to my hens and doggies in a few days if there are no claimers.
