Arizona Chickens

The last of the hatching eggs I'll ever buy...maybe...possibly...probably not....arrived yesterday. I ordered a dozen frizzles and a dozen Silver Grey Dorkings. The shipper of the Dorking eggs did a HORRIBLE job with packaging. They sent extra eggs, but even with that there was so much breakage that I didn't get my full dozen AND the runny egg had gotten all over the remaining eggs. I had to clean off nearly all of them, which now, along with how much those eggs must have moved around in shipping, has me wondering if any of them will even hatch.

By comparison the frizzle eggs were packed beautifully AND they shipped a half a dozen more than I'd ordered. Wow!

So now I'm heading to the nearest feed store to buy a second incubator since mine simply won't hold that many eggs.

I think I may even throw a few of my own flock's eggs in there to see if any hatch. They've been consistently fertile for weeks, so....I may have some very funny little baby chick combinations in about a month from now.

I have enough backyard mix if you want some olive Egger chicks some others that might be fun let me know!

I think i need to be signed up for chicken anonymous. -.-
I may just take you up on that offer!

I got a nice giant fluffy yellow Trader Joe's chick, and I mean giant! I'm so used to tiny quail. Got some chicks from a Bielfelder over RSLs, EEs and I'm not sure what my sister's rooster was over her different shades of brown layers. So there are black, brown chipmunk, yellow, and buff colored chicks drying off. Most of these will go to my sister's, but a few will stay here.

BTW you need to pick up your moringa trees! Or I need to drop them off for you.

We live in Tucson and have had our "Girls" for just over 2 years. We noticed that they are a bit more uncomfortable during the real heat but they have shade and love to go under their house to cool off. Plenty of water is a given. They also get to roam the yard every evening.

Yikes! There is no excuse for poor shipping! I'm glad the frizzle eggs were OK.

Of course you always need more incubators.

HI all I need some help I just got home and the front of my Barred Rock roo was all bloody. It seems the hens at least the sexlink hens have decided to peck at his waddle which is very long. It bled a lot. Is there a way to stop the hens from doing that. If they keep it up he will bleed out. I moved him to a separate paddock for tonights. After I washed and blow dried him and put him back in with them they broke it open again. I might have to remove the sexlinks

Would anyone out there be interested in mixed hatching eggs or young pullets? I have both for sale and am looking to sell both to make enough money to buy myself a wedding dress! if anyone is interested, I can list the breeds I have a mix of, and the hens I have. Let me know!

Go to your local feed store and get some Blue Kote anti pick med. Get the one in a pump spray bottle.

This is still one of our favorite signs. . Can't remember who posted.
I love this!!!! Okay...here's my funny story....When my son was only about 3 years old he was standing on our couch, looking outside our living room window to watch some of the free-range cattle that had wandered over. All of a sudden, literally right in front of him not even 3 feet away, the bull mounted one of the cows and went to town on her. I walked into the room to see my son's horrified expression. In a very alarmed voice he yelled, "Mommy! What are they doing? What's he doing to her?" I answered, "They're making a baby cow, honey." He remained very quiet and watched them for a few more moments before turning to me and grumbling, "I don't think she's enjoying it very much." I laughed until I cried. :D
That is hilarious.. :lau. :goodpost: :highfive:
