Arizona Chickens

Hey, the only thing that makes me angry is our leaders trying to take our freedoms away. I'm NOT unhappy, just the opposite actually.

I have a wonderful wife. I have great kids that love me. I have AC to keep me cool and one of the eggs under the broody hatched.

We'll go to Pratts tomorrow and buy 4 more to go with it.

Am I a worry wart? Yes, but I'm still happy.

Morning AZ chicken goers!

How is everyones week going?

Mahonri, you've got it right! Being happy for what you have and who you have is the only way to live. Worry comes along naturally but it shouldn't overthrow the joys in life. Good luck with your three cracked eggs. Couldn't have you candled them? Or is it at this stage that can't be done?

Tofuranch, if you see some crazy lady running around trying to hug your chickens...don't shoot! It's just me!

I found a pet rabbit at Tumble Weed Park and took her to a Vet. She's healthy and kindled a litter of six kits on the 23rd. Would anyone be interested in adopting her or her kits when they are weaned? It won't be for another 5 1/2 weeks. I won't be charging anything for them but your word of honor. I think Momma would be an awesome outside rabbit, she's pretty fat lol!

I'm still trying to sell my coop too. It's $250 with haggle room but I can't deliver it lol. I wish I had a truck...oh the things I could with a truck! *double tap*

You can email me or PM me if you want more information and pictures for the coop or rabbits.

I broke my 3rd broody a few weeks ago by giving her several cold showers. I just held her and soaked her with the hose (not her face). It worked great for me-- and it probably kept her nice and cool. I had to do it on a few subsequent days too when she spent a little too much time on the nestbox, but she never stopped laying and after 4 days lost all signs of broodiness.

My broody stopped laying about a week or more ago. Does that mean it is too late to break her? Frankly, I just don't want to deal with it! Maybe I will let her keep some eggs and just get it over with. Maybe she will survive.

Only 1 hatched... cute little BWA X Cinnamon Queen... last one was a roo so I hope this is a pullet.

Got 5 from Pratts. 3 RIR and 2 EEs it's all they had. They had some beautiful Andalusians that I wish would have been younger.

I forgot to ask, Does anyone know where Pratt's gets their chicks?

My Mom lives in Flagstaff with her 30 or so chickens. The other day she asked the people at her feed store why they only have chicks the end of March and beginning of April. They told her that it was so that the chickens would be old enough to survive the winter. This just doesn't sound right. Any thoughts?

That would make sense for Flagstaff.

My last egg hatched... BWA X Black Star.. Black with muffs. Don't know if it will make it.

ETA: now that it's fluffed out, it looks a beautiful BLUE! Amazing... praying it's a pullet.

Another day in the life...

So I'm out skimming the pool, my left foot slips in and I immediately went down.

Head hit the side of the pool and destroyed my glasses. Entire left side of my face is buggered up. Huge swelling below my left eye, nice sized gash above my left eye, left wrist and pinky, ring and bird finger on my left hand messed up. BUT I CAN TYPE... My entire right knee has no skin left on it. But other than that, all is fine and dandy!

Don't y'all just LOVE life!?!?!?!?

Ouch.

I'm fairly new to chickens but think it makes sense- Our average 1st day of below freezing temps at night is usually early to mid Sept. Average last day of frost is like June 7-but we had it down to 36 just the other night at my house......
