Agh how sweet, what breeds did you get? Our DF that got us into chicken's took some of our fertile egg's.. None hatched. The summer has never been good for us either.. I always go out and remove them in the summer time..
I was told the yellow chick is a Brahma and the black chick is an Ameraucana. I got them from a feed store, so we'll see!I know that's not always the preferred way to get chickens, but I needed very young ones right then, so that's what I did! :-D Betsy is loving being a momma, so all is good. I knew the summer hatch would be a challenge, but thought we'd give it a try since that's when she chose to go broody. From what I've heard, RIR aren't a broody breed, so I thought it might be a one time deal...haha! :>
Wait...which feed store is selling Brahmas? Inquiring minds desperately want to know!![]()
And don't knock the feed store chickens. They all have their place. My first flock came from two feed stores and they're wonderful chickens that give me lots of eggs and lots of joy. They're smart, funny and outstanding production birds.You're lucky to have such a good momma chicken.
I got them from Arizona Feeds Country Store, at their south location on South 6th. We have loved watching the little ones imitate the momma...doing all their scratching and stretching...just on a smaller scale. So cute!![]()
Hey there AZ BYC!
I'm looking for lavender orphingtons here in the Phoenix area. Anybody have a hen, some chicks, or some hatching eggs? Or know of someone who does? Thanks!!

I say ," cook 'em." If they are egg eaters.... now I call them, "dinner,"
Maybe it was just curiosity, but the egg tasted so good they ate most or all of it? Mine are competing with the chickens for food. They have a separate pen but they escape and eat the chickens' feed, or one of the girls jumps in with the ducks and eats theirs.Oh, how sweet!!![]()
Our latest duck drama;
These 3 ate our duck egg from Lauren this morning!![]()
We let them out of their connecting pin yesterday.. I'll give them one more day & if they eat another egg, they will have to be back into their separate area.. So far no problems from our drake Rick... But again, maybe they could not get to their food.. ?
