How many chickens do you have? New or established flock?

Is having a 4 the of July party with her neighborhood and the BYC SEED BOX for a seed exchange tomorrow night. I think it starts at 8pm. It will be in Tempe for those interested! :D

My broody hen, Betsy, didn't have luck hatching eggs naturally, so we got her a couple of day old chicks, and she is loving being Mommy Hen! I was finally able to get a good pic.
Agh how sweet, what breeds did you get? Our DF that got us into chicken's took some of our fertile egg's.. None hatched. The summer has never been good for us either.. I always go out and remove them in the summer time..

Happy Sunday, everyone is gone so I have time to post.. The 4th of July party was nice, the BYC members that came had previously gone threw the box, so that left for more time visiting.. AND firework's... We had deviled egg's, potato salad, chili, chicken & rice dish, fruit salad.. I made Thai tea YUM!! We will do another BYC exchange in a month or so...

One other neat thing happened last night.. When the firework's went off a few door's down, a young ring-necked dove flew from a neighbor's tree, tried to land into our tree, with no success.. Then one of our spay neuter/re-release cat's pounced on her!! Crazy fast.. I jumped up while a friend checked it out, grabbed the net & captured it.. It slept in a bird cage untill this morning when I realsed it.. Happy that nothing was wrong on the fall.. Happy ending..

I was told the yellow chick is a Brahma and the black chick is an Ameraucana. I got them from a feed store, so we'll see! :) I know that's not always the preferred way to get chickens, but I needed very young ones right then, so that's what I did! :-D Betsy is loving being a momma, so all is good. I knew the summer hatch would be a challenge, but thought we'd give it a try since that's when she chose to go broody. From what I've heard, RIR aren't a broody breed, so I thought it might be a one time deal...haha! :>

Wait...which feed store is selling Brahmas? Inquiring minds desperately want to know!

And don't knock the feed store chickens. They all have their place. My first flock came from two feed stores and they're wonderful chickens that give me lots of eggs and lots of joy. They're smart, funny and outstanding production birds.

You're lucky to have such a good momma chicken.

I got them from Arizona Feeds Country Store, at their south location on South 6th. We have loved watching the little ones imitate the momma...doing all their scratching and stretching...just on a smaller scale. So cute!

Hey there AZ BYC!
I'm looking for lavender orphingtons here in the Phoenix area. Anybody have a hen, some chicks, or some hatching eggs? Or know of someone who does? Thanks!!
