Arizona Chickens

I noticed that if I offer some new leftovers, the birds are curious but will shun it until one of them is brave enough and then the rest will join in the feast.

Decided to sit in the run with the flock to watch the show. They were not too active but I did have my camera with me so...........

My biggest NN/Wyandotte hen calm, good layer. I love NNs.
Big Blue Bertha with co-broody Serama/NN and the last chick of the season. Dark skinned NN with small crest.
Only rooster dark skinned NN with slight crest with favorite hen EE from City Farm

NN hen from City Farm

New pullet, dark skinned NN with small crest. Looking forward to see her eggs in springtime.

Last chick to survive neighborhood cats with Serama/NN broody mom. My goal is dark skinned NN with crests and beards. I prefer rose or pea combs, no wattles hence the beards which negate wattles. I prefer colorful egg basket also.

Did you say that cat's have bothered your chick's? Did you breed the chicks we gave you that made up the NN? Flower our poor girl marshmallow neck looked so bad the other day.. This one is my DH favorite..she is just a tiny Banty, the rooster or the hen's could of been going after her.. Idk, but sure glad we found it.. The duck's don't mind her at all. Hope you can pop on over next time you are in town.. Have you talked to lady Doria ??

Hahaha oh chickens! That's funny that they didn't like it. My girls eat it up as soon as it hits the ground! If I was better with knowing how to make it,I would give my them some fermented feed

It's actually pretty easy to make FF. Here's a link to some instructions in case you're interested:

CITY FARM sorry about Marshmallo but you are a good chicken mama and know what to do. The pictures of her in with the ducks are precious. Yes the neighborhood cats are a big problem for me and my flock. People do not keep them inside and I have lost a beautiful Polish hen and many chicks to other peoples pets.I do not dislike cats but they are predatory and kill thousands of song birds each year plus any other animal when the opportunity arises.

I am remiss in knowing my breeding stats within my flock as they are all together and just backyard mutts. Years ago I wanted specific breeds such as Wellsummers since they are sex linked and good calm all purpose breed. Later I wanted a variety of eggs hence the mix I have now. Last two years became interested in breeding for the characteristics that I like. NN with dark skin, crest and pea comb are favorites but I am not very industrious and have several large distractions. So now I just enjoy the birds that I have, keep them healthy and fight the neighbors's cats. NN are my favorite and fun to mix.

Yes next time I find the time to visit I certainly will enjoy seeing you and Sill. Bonnie is in the valley but haven't talked in months.

Hi all I am trying to sell my Lavender Orpington hens and will be donating part of the sale to help another chicken mama keep her girls. I also have free roos and some phoenix duck wing hens and roos for sale kingman az

So it appears there is an abundance of rabid skunks in my area. One even attacked one of my neighbors in the middle of the day. Anyone else having this problem?
Isn't there an equivalent of a game warden or someone with the fish and game service who is responsible to round up rabid wildlife before it becomes more of a problem as in infecting domestic animals ?

Animal control has been called out this way multiple times by multiple people and I believe they've set some traps, but so far the clever little disease bags seem to be evading capture. I now have a gun on me whenever I go outside....just in case. The last thing I want to face is a round of rabies shots.

So, possibly moving to the Mesa area in March....

What are the rules on "house chickens"? The ordnance I read made it sound like they had to be in an outdoor coop....

Also, is there a rule about not being able to dye your chickens? ( Our silkie is currently pink)

Any recommended areas around Mesa to look for housing that is chicken-friendly?

I would call game and fish too just to let them in on the loop and maybe get things done faster for you. They do removal of rabid animals and testing as well. I don't blame you for taking a gun! That's the last thing you need :/
