Arizona Chickens

Hello! I have this chicken that I thought was a hen for the first part of its life. I hated her from my flock. Her dad is a blue copper Marans, and her mom is either a RIR or a buff Orpington. But for the last month, she has started to look like a he. Can you guys give me your opinion? "She" is about 2 and a half months old.

My educated guess is a cockerel, IMHO
Looks like there's pointy feathers around the neck and I think two months typically on those breeds would be too early to have waddles.

How are you chickens? Are they freezing in yet? Have you had to thaw out their water?

... anyone else with pictures? Anyone else with frozen water?

Oh yeah! Frozen water every morning. We keep a large pot in the kitchen with water dripping into it overnight. In the morning I heat that water up on the stove and pour it over the waterers to thaw them out, plus a little hot water over their fermented feed, which they really seem to appreciate. It was 27 degrees this morning when I went out to feed them. Too cold! I think I need a feather coat like my chickens!

I haven't noticed frozen water, but then, I'm a late riser, lol. Anyway I saw the cookie tin heater here on backyard chickens and went and made me one. I have it on tonight. I hope it works. It was simple and cheap. Mine cost me a whole $2.50. I got the parts at our local thrift store. Here it is...

Look through the threads and you can read up on them.

No problems, in fact, the chickens are really pumping out the eggs for the last week or so. Went from 8 a day (molt) to 24 a day. Had to sell 10 dozen today just to make room in the fridge.

Here is one of the boys, guarding his ladies.

Looks like a female to me.

I've got a couple of chicks(should all be pullet) for sale if anyone is interested. One is a Blue Marans (1 week), 1 buff orpington (8+ weeks), and 1 svart hona (1 week). Location: Globe (but I can bring to Phoenix on Friday when I drop my father off at the Mesa Gateway airport).

I also have 3 Texas A&M Quail chicks for sale(strait run)

, born 1 week ago Monday (just starting to turn white as their feathers are starting to grow in).

PM If interested.

I have had frozen water every morning :/ im located in the north, so not too surprising I guess. If I had an outdoor outlet I would definitely make a cookie Tim heater. Let me know how it does@Tina88 I give the ladies fresh warm water every morning and some days even make them some warm oatmeal to heat them up for the day :)
