Arizona Chickens

Goodness everyone is so busy with holiday stuff ! FeatherPugs you are an inspiration to me because you are so brave. Sounds as if you are feeling better.

I like the idea of that heater, so easy to make and I have the pieces to make one. Have repaired lamps in the past. But I am in the habit of boiling water in the kettle to bring out for the flock. Got three eggs yesterday from fourteen hens some of which are still molting.

happy holidays to everyone

Happy Holidays to you as well!

Awwww thanks!! I do feel better just have no stamina. I work things in 15 minute pieces - then usually sit for 15 to 30 minutes!! Makes what I'm doing slow but it gets done!! Took me all day to put up the Christmas tree..... Had to break ice a few times during the cold - don't think it'll be the last. I'm only getting 3 to 7 eggs from 25 hens. And molt - some have had the hardest molt I've seen in a long time - I wish I knew something to make it easier - I feel so bad for them. I'm going to buy some pullets come spring if there are any available. I need to make the flock a bit younger! Not sure I want to raise chicks this year - too many possible variables with my health.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Hi all,

I have a 3 month old splash silkie pullet that I would like to show as she's gorgeous and is (I think) up to breed standards. I've never shown chickens before and was hoping someone could recommend any shows that aren't too competitive and are good for first-timers. I live in Tucson and would rather not drive much more than about two hours each way.

Thanks!

hi there! I'm a beginning chicken shower myself, with a splash silkie hen. So Far, I think that the Pima County Fair Fair has the best opportunity for young showers to show their livestock, against a bit of competition. It is a great experience, from what I have heard, and it gives a chance to learn from others. If you want a smaller show though, im sure I can find something ^-^ Im looking for something small myself at the moment. My school may be having an easter show, where little kids can come and pet the chickens, rabbits, and baby animals, while their owners practice show standard's. I live out in Vail, so only about an 20 minutes to an hour, depending on where in Tucson you live. Though I think FFA has some age requirements. May I ask how old you are?

Thanks! I'll take a look at the Pima County Fair. I live near Saguaro National Park East so I'm actually closer to Vail than to downtown Tucson. I'm 26 though so I think I'm too old for FFA. If you know of any other small all-ages shows let me know! :)

The Tucson Poultry Pigeon and Fancy Fowl Club usually has a small spring show, usually after the Pima County Fair. They have a Facebook page that is sometimes out of date. Best bet is to spend $10 and join - then you get the mailings for the meetings and the club-sponsored shows. (I think it's $10 for an individual membership - don't have a form handy at the moment.) The small shows are often organized at the last minute, so getting the mailings or going to the meetings is the best way to find out about them. I will PM you the mailing address.

X2.. the reason for the season. Luke 2:11 & happy new year

I think we're going to get together again New Years Eve if anybody wants to come by, I still have the seedbox. Private message me and I'll give you all the details. I might even post up later not sure. My son is having surgery on his torn ACL tomorrow, I'm just getting ready for that and our community luminary party. . Making creamy rosemary potato soup, and turkey white bean with bone marrow soup. If anybody wants to come over and have soup and help light the luminaries let me know. Christmas Eve around 4 o'clock.

a lot lately, but I'd like to jump in here for a minute to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy new year! I am at work right now, but plan on getting out of here early tonight and starting 10 days of vacation! Naturally, I have all 10 days planned chock full of honey do's, so I probably won't be on much. Wishing everyone all the best!
