Arizona Chickens

Awwww thanks!!  I do feel better just have no stamina.  I work things in 15 minute pieces - then usually sit for 15 to 30 minutes!!  Makes what I'm doing slow but it gets done!!  Took me all day to put up the Christmas tree.....    Had to break ice a few times during the cold - don't think it'll be the last.  I'm only getting 3 to 7 eggs from 25 hens.  And molt - some have had the hardest molt I've seen in a long time - I wish I knew something to make it easier - I feel so bad for them.   I'm going to buy some pullets come spring if there are any available.  I need to make the flock a bit younger!  Not sure I want to raise chicks this year - too many possible variables with my health.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I will have some baby chicks at the first of the year if ur interested. There just for egg production there a mix of ee with a black english orpington or rr with the black orpington. I also have some pure lavender orpingtons that im breeding back to black so they will be pretty!! The cross breeds should be good egg layers

I won't know my situation until about March - so don't let me forget.........they sound delightful!!

Happy Holidays to all,
I'm hoping to get a few extra chicks this year...
I'm going to start looking soon as I clear my spare room out, so I can keep the babies warm.
I've never introduced new chicks to a flock though with out a mama hen,
Is there anything special I should prepare to do?
I only have four hens, and will probably get 3-4 new babies.
My coop is about 20x4. but most of the time they free range my backyard, when I don't have a garden to protect.
Thanks

No problem i will be constantly hatching something between barn mix to lavender orps. To ducklings

Honestly i dont know what the chicks eggs color will be. The orpingtons do a lg light brown then the others are a darker brown and blue/green colors so i have no idea what their eggs would be this is my first hatch of the mixes so only time will tell

Cool, I actually was asking what color eggs you were incubating...
I can only imagine that egg color is linked to genetics....
My EE's give me very lightly blue tinted eggs, I was hoping for something more colorful.
Someone posted a picture of eggs from a Black Maran, that were dark red almost black, and I am fascinated... and really want one...

I thought I would introduce myself. I'm in New River and we have 6 hens (2 Welsummer, 1 Buff Orpington, 2 Wheaten Ameracauna and 1 Black Sex Link). I would like to add Olive Egger and Isbar to our flock.
