Arizona Chickens

And where is Tonapah Patti? People come, and people go in this website. Some of my favorite posters have dropped off. Where is Mayberry Saint, Pickles Pickles, Paganfish and Little Chicken Racing Team?

I keep getting the feeling that there is another Chicken Pages out there somewhere beyond the Pale where these people have gravitated to.

I haven't forgotten, but do have a few personal limitations here:
1) Can't tell the roos from the pullets.
2) Have a weak history of taking pictures...of anything..., thus, my skill and experience are limited.
3) There are FOURTEEN of them to get pictures of.
4) They move constantly.
5) On the plus side...my new cell phone has a great cameral. On the minus side, I have to figure out how to get the pictures OFF the camera on ON to BYC.
6) On the plus side...I did get some pictures so you can help me count pullets roo's.

More to come when I have time to fuss with posting pictures.

I am just grateful that roo was very fertile... can't wait to see what you got out of those eggs.

Good morning everyone!

I think I have 2 broodies. Crap. One is Dozer--which makes this her third batch of chicks this year. And the other is an ancient OEGB named Banshee (because she screams if you go anywhere near her--she was a resuce)

Dont they know it is HOT in the nesting boxes? Stupid broodies.

It is a little warm down here in Tucson. Hey- anyone out there who can take a bantam rooster? He is sweet and a tiny little mighty thing. Just cannot keep him because we are within the Tucson limits.

We lost our first pullet last Friday while we were out of town.

We were camping and had a neighbor boy taking care of them. He was here in the morning and everyone was fine.
When he came back that evening Arianna, our favorite pullet and only blue egg layer, was dead under the tree.
Because I wasn't here, I don't know why she died. They said she didn't seem damaged by a predator, so I can only guess.
My daughters cried and I worried about the rest of the chickens until we got home last night. Everyone else seems fine.
I miss her when I walk into the yard and the other 5 come running expecting treats.
We ate the last blue egg this morning.

My daughter wants to get some more chicks right away. I'm thinking maybe we should get a blue-egg laying pullet about the same age as our others but I've heard horror stories about introducing new chickens and I don't know if I want to rock the boat.
Either way, I think it might be a good idea to give it some time before we do anything.

1 Smokey/Blue
1 Bearded Red

1 Really pretty copper and blue (named Copper)
1 barred brown called Chip - had a chipmonk strip as a chick.

Tell me about it. Last week I evicted every single hen in my laying flock from their coop and nestboxes. Brought the eggs in, candled and put them in the incubator (not that I want them, but the chicks were already developing
roll.png
So I threw the hens into the batchelor pad coop sans nests. They aren;t real happy, but at least they aren't stuffed into stuffy nest boxes (in some cases, 2 birds per hole

) and ignoring the chicks that hatch

I am just worried about Dozer. She is not even a year old and 3 broody spells this year?! I am going to have to crate her seperately (the chick from her last batch was stepped on by a bigger chicken) which means another batch of waterers and feeders to clean everyday. AND since it is her 3rd time she's still a bit skinny and all her frizzled feathers are just the feather shaft! She looks like a Hellraiser/Sputnik cross.

And what about Banshee?! I doubt that evil bird will let me pick her up!
