Arizona Chickens

What did you use for netting to go across the top I've looked and to cover a 10-foot by hundred foot section on top would be quite expensive. Also don't worry about the rabbits I have had it with them LOL this weekend I will be teaching my son to build a snare and skin rabbits I haven't had rabbit stew for quite a few years lol
We used bird netting from American Netting. It's been up for three years and it's holding up well.

The coop is on the left, the run on the right with the netting over it.

The back end near the gate has welded wire over it because we already had it so we used it. The rest is covered by the netting.

So I have a dove that continues to get into the school chicken coop and just beat the living crap out of their face and under wings. I'm taking him/her home today and letting them go there, hopefully he will fly off somewhere else, and NOT die in the school chicken coop. If he ends up there again, I swear i'm going to just leave him there.

My teacher trimmed his wings thismorning.... does that make them inable to fly? Should I just keep him as a pet? He would make a good pet <3 His name is Bucky <3 XD
I have a couple of pet doves. I keep them because I love the sounds they make. Mine are a ring neck and a diamond dove.

This is precisely why I've been crossing my Biels with more heat tolerant breeds. I really like the Biels, but I most definitely will not be pure breeding them or buying any more. They simply aren't heat tolerant
I have two Biel crosses and they seem to do fine in the heat. I've only had a pure bred Biel for a few weeks, long enough to get fertile eggs from him, so I don't know how different they are in terms of heat tolerance. I thought with their large combs they would be too bad in the heat.

SWIMMING POOL BROODER

I usually just use a large cardboard box to brood chicks, but after taking some pics yesterday of some 1 week old Cornish X, it hit home how fast they were outgrowing my normal box brooder. After a trip to the local Dollar store, and some creative cardboard and tape work, I ended up with this....

400

400

This is 5 foot diameter plastic pool ($20), with 36 inch cardboard walls. With the exception of the pool, everything else is shed scrounge.

Well, that didn't last long. Today, I am turning one end of the "common pen" into a grow out pen for the meatball chickens.

They grow fast. Last year we ended up with them on our side patio/dirt area. They never wandered off, just stayed there, even though it was open. They were enormous when we butchered them at 6.5 weeks, the girls being between 4lbs 5oz and 5 lbs and the boys between 5.5 and 6.5lbs!

I have 3 naked neck chicks for sale, hatched yesterday. Will be in Tucson area Sat if anyone down there wants them, or pick-up in Globe, AZ

$5 each

Don't know gender, but they each have a bow-tie style patch of feathering on their necks.

Went for more feed to TSC Casa Grande. Cuteness factor and 75 cent chicks. 4 assorted midget chicks and 2 buff orpington. That puts tally at 59 birds. Maybe 5 roos. Two of which Linda will never cook. Gorgeous slw with grey head like a bald eagle and a Buff Silkie. Now if feed was only cheaper than dirt.
last time I was in TSC in CG all they had were ducks and red/gold sex links and its only been less than 2 weeks!! I have to go tomorrow so I'll be in trouble......Enjoy those littles!

Sounds like someplace I need to stay away from! I'm staying broke buying feed, and I couldn't honestly tell you how many chickens I have right now. Maybe that should be my goal today, an accurate headcount!
