Arizona Chickens

Well, if I tell you you'll probably never want to try it and find out how delicious it is. Seriously though, it's basically pork, a few other ingredients, and cornmeal chilled and formed into a block that you slice and fry either straight or dipped in flour. As far as the pork part, it's the facial meats of the pig (toungue, cheeks, etc.) but it can be made from any part of a pig. Pon Hoss is PA Dutch for "pan rabbitt". I used to think it was served everywhere but later found out it's only popular in PA, MD, and the Ohio Valley.

Don't bet on me not wanting to try it. I have tried many food's in my lifetime that I had never even heard of before. Some of them were good. I have a saying: I'll try anything once, and twice if I like it. I do eat pork, and I used to eat the Louisiana hog head cheese when I lived there many years ago. No one makes that stuff as good as they do over there.

Roger that. You're like me - I'll try anything once to see how it is. I think you'd love it. It goes great in the morning with eggs, buckwheat cakes, etc.

It's far from you, but you could try contacting the Pork Shop here in San Tan Valley. Old style pork butcher. They make their own lunch meats, sausage, etc. I haven't seen anything like that, but you never know. They might be willing to give it a go. http://theporkshopaz.com/ They're closed Mondays & Tuesdays too I think.

My mother was from Philadelphia and she loved scrapple. She couldn't even get good scrapple on Long Island. Had to go to Pennsylvania for her supplies. She moved to Arizona 20 years ago and never did find a source for it here. She did find some stuff called scrapple but it wasn't the same. I wouldn't know - she always hoarded the small amounts she was able to get. She did let me try it once when I was a kid, but only a small sample. I think she was afraid if she let my try it for real I'd like it and then she'd have to share.

I wonder if you could try to find out the recipe for the good one and somehow make it yourself?

I live in Oro Valley. By now I'm sure you are reconsidering the move especially in light of your desire for chickens. Catalina would be a better bet, just north of OV for this purpose. My nosy neighbor walked into my backyard uninvited and unannounced two times in just one day! He's the neighborhood snitch for our HOA. OV is HOA-paralyzed. Beautiful place, love my house, don't care for the neighbors, and HOA restrictions make us Stepford people!

I would never live someplace that had HOA.
