Tommorow is a big work day for me!!!

I will be building 2 - 3 of this little pallet coop with some school supplies for some poultry projects!!

Today is a planning/setup day, I will be working through my lunch period to draw out the plan and size, and take apart pallets, and then tommorow I have from 8:40 - 1:40 to actually build them! So exciteeddddd!!

During Lunch and 4th i'll have my boyfriend help me out with these. He be a handy man.

Wish me luck, these will be the homes for my rescue roos, my show polish, and the possible third will be for breeding!! (Silkies im hoping)

I use a digital kitchen scale that adjusts from ounces to pounds and grams to kg, and I usually put a wash cloth or something else that's non-slip on the glass surface to improve the likelihood of the bird staying in place. This works well for me until they approach 14+ weeks depending on the bird. Then I just use a human scale, hold the bird and weigh us both together, and then deduct my own weight from the number. (This is sometimes easier to do if you have someone to help you out with hold and releasing the bird.)

Thanks! You confirmed my thoughts. Lol the fun it'll be weighing chick on my own with the pups.

The hatch was wonderfully successful! Of the eggs that went into lock down, only one failed to hatch. I think the poor little thing ran out of room in the egg before it finished absorbing the yolk and suffocated. Here are some baby pictures, because who doesn't love sharing photos of their little chicks? ;) My lone NN hatchling from my own NN/White Rock cross parents. I have high hopes for this little chick. Another of mine, this time a cross between my Ameraucana/White Rock rooster and one of my best laying Dorking-mix hens. Given their respective coloring, I really can't wait to see how this hardy little one feathers out. The third and final chick from my own flock, this time a Bielefelder/Australorp hen and, to my surprise, my Ameraucana/Dorking-mix rooster. (I never knew Harley had won mom's affections!) And finally, a few of the best shots of my pure Dorkings. I managed to hatch 8 lovely little chicks from these hatching eggs, and right now I'm thinking that 2 of them may be cockerels.
Congrats! Very cute babies!

I like the look of it. Guessing no blueprints available for you? Let us know how it goes.

I use a digital kitchen scale for chicks, too. I put the youngest chicks into 1 quart yogurt cups to weigh them. Helps to keep them in place. When they no longer fit in the cups I just stand them on the scale with my hands nearby to keep them in place. Most of them stay put long enough to weigh.

Thanks! Awesome idea for the yogurt cup.
