Like I said, I was just teasing you! For some reason, I was UNOFFICIALLY elected BYC IT support...people PM me with the strangest questions and I feel compelled to help.

Sometimes, when they really dont want it

Sonoran- You know how 44th street wraps around the mountain and turns into Tatum? Do you think I would get arrested if I harvested some of the TONS fruit dropping in the medians/along the walkways? I am not going to back a truck up or anything, allthough I WOULD if I thought the chickens would eat it.

No idea--why not call the city streets' department and ask if you can volunteer to arrange a median cleanup for that area

I AM JUST teasing. Those are their "Titles" or a title given to them based on the # of times they have posted on BYC. Not their names. You can see my title is Custom and says, "Pickled kumquat" but my name is "LAREE" (Larry).

You are a "New Egg" because you have under 100 posts.

I was wondering if it was pronounced La Ree' or Larry

An amazing discovery today! Becky came over to pick up one of the EEs and the Delaware, and naturally, the two that we wanted had squeezed into a gap in between the coop and the block wall. It was a good thing that this happened, because there was a hidden nest between the coop and the wall that had six eggs in it. I had the gap blocked off with wire, but obviously I hadn't done a good enough job.

I'd last looked behind there about a week ago, and there weren't any eggs, so I had a rough time-frame for how long they'd been there. So, I gathered them up and as soon as Becky left, I went into the bathroom to candle them. 5 of the 6 eggs were developing. And not just a little bit, they were at least a week along. So I marked them, differently from the other eggs, and tucked them under my broody. I don't know if they'll hatch or not, but I figure that is the way that they have the best chance.

This clearly wasn't a broody's nest, the eggs were haphazardly arranged and I'd seen all of my chickens out in the run and acting normally. Where they were, they were shaded by a orange tree in the neighbor's yard, as well as some ivy on my wall, and the radiant heat from the coop and the wall (both of which are cinderblock) would have kept them from getting too cool. I don't know if they'll hatch, but it'll be interesting to see what happens.

That's so cool about the eggs!
What was funny is that it was only the two we wanted that had squeezed themselves in there... and they say chickens aren't smart.

They made the trip fine, BTW and were doing great with the other chicken when we left. Deilia (sp?) escaped again when the door didn't get latched, but we caught her quickly this time.

Maggiemoos-If you check Craigslist, there are always people selling chicks or older birds. There is also a hatchery up north that has chicks all the time. The owner post here as tofuranch. I've also got some 2 1/2 month old leghorn pullets I'm looking to rehome, and I'll have EE and Ameraucana chicks hatching in a couple weeks, although I won't know the sex on those for awhile. Or, if you want to order from a hatchery and want to avoid shipping costs for a small order, you can always order 25 and then sell the ones you don't want on Craigslist.

Mahonri-Glad that you got back safely. It sounds like you had an awesome trip.

It rained a little more today, but it seems to be going around this part of Mesa.

Hi everyone!

I'm jealous of all who are getting rain. I'm still waiting! We were promised a 60% chance of a real monsoon today...not one single drop has fallen at my house.

I read on this thread earlier that someone got pecked in the eye. Well, as I was bent over looking at our new chicks, one of my older chicks pecked me in the eye. It is sore, but I think my gas permeable contact lens received most of the peck.

My coworker found a hovabator incubator at Goodwill today for $20.00. She was going to have it tested but when they went to open it up, it was still in the original packaging. She picked it up for me and she'll bring it to me tomorrow. So excited!
