ETA: The desert tortoises have to watch the lettuce intake....something about the excess protien giving their kidneys fits. Romain is ok, but should not be the main part of their diet. Fruits are sorta no-nos too. Every desert tortoise I have had will STOP eating greens the moment a banana comes into view. Then they get all snippy when you whip out the green beans....

I'm sure on the age; they were less than a year and much smaller when the neighbors' daughter and her kids moved in with them two or three years ago (and stayed for a year). When they moved out, the tortoises remained. A few weeks ago I got to pet sit

No, and they lay LOTS of eggs. There are a bunch in hte neighborhood, and about one a year a notice is posted on the neighborhood stop signs that says to watch out for the moving "rocks" and please return them to ...

I did that with this new girl, painted it right on the rim of her shell. Had a friend who shaved their # into the dog's side, because "D" was a fence-hopper.

Looking to get my first chickees but am concerned about it being too hot. I live in Apache Juction. Want to get started but don't want to jump the gun if waiting another couple of months might make the difference between healthy versus dead chicks. Help please!

Chicks need to be in warm temps for the first few weeks, 95 degrees for the 1st week, then drop 5 degrees each week thereafter. With the temps we have had, they should be ok. Just provide lots of water, shade and ventilation.

I just had 4 chicks hatch this week, and all are doing fine.

As you will learn on this forum, there is no better time than the present to get chicks/chickens.

Good luck in your decision!

We've finally gotten rain. I was coming out of Target and could smell it. No rain at Target, 3 miles away at my house it poured! Water was gushing everywhere. One coop flooded and it was more than anckle deep in water, we pulled them out and they will spend the night on the porch. No lives lost, so I was happy to have the rain. Atleast now I can see what adjustments need to be,made to my back coops.

All I have are the dutch and oegb, and they aren't laying very well. I only got 1 egg today.

I don't know if she is looking for standards, but these are bantams.

Let me know if she would still be interested and I'll hold the eggs.

Angie

Oooh thank you, but go ahead and eat them. I think she is going to try to break the broody instead.
