Our chicks are all doing good. I think the EE and SLC chicks are roos.

I was thinking that the blue andulsian was a roo too but the comb has taken a break on growing so that one is still up in the air. Our ducks are doing good, the dumb male still has to be penned up by himself. We let him out every afternoon so he can take a swim in the pond but sure enough there he goes after the younger one.

I have never wanted grilled duck so much. Our scovies are doing great and growing like weeds. I really think that I have two males and one female. If that is the case I am going to have to get some more females. (side note: hubby just LOVES my new scovie hobby)

My kids go back to school in about 2 weeks. My oldest is going into kindergarden and has to wear a uniform to school and I just hate that. They started this stupid uniform thing the year before my daughter started preschool so I wasn't in the PTO or involved in the school anyway back then. If I was, I would have faut that like crazy. I have been searching around to find the best deals on these dumb clothes. This year both kids are going to be in school. That means I am going to have 2 1/2 hours a day of ME time.

I look forward to tying out your method - what we were doing just wasn't working. We got plenty of beetles, but they wouldn't reproduce! They were the large mealworms, though, so after reading your directions I wonder if this was part of the problem? Thanks for the tips on this...I'm sure our chooks will be grateful!

We had superworms for feeding our lizard years ago. The only reporduction problems we ever had was that he liked to eat them, so most never made it to the beetle stage, where he REALLY liked to eat them

I think the "horror of damp, muddy runs" is just not very applicable to the desert southwest, at least not in the summer. I always let things dry up in any particular spot. . . to avoid the spread of disease, etc., use good fly control, etc., and so far at least (keeping fingers crossed and knocking on wood) I have had no disease and no problems. My main concern in the summer is keeping them cool and comfortable. . ..in the winter they just have their drinking water, one big waterer outdoors and a slightly smaller one indoors, a nice big dry coop that they can be contained in if the weather is really bad, and of course plenty of food, love and treats.

Run misters too long or have flood irrigation and it can be a real issue.

Yeah, my fear of muddy runs came from a couple of stories on this thread, mostly of water run amok rather than weather. Chronically wet conditions can foster so many problems. Having said that, rotating puddle locations seems to be a good idea!

When my daughter went to kindergarten she too had to wear a uniform. I was dead-set against it, simply hated the idea of it. However, in practice, it really made our lives so much easier. There wasn't an issue every morning of what to wear. Once the uniform code is in place, your school will have uniform exchanges and that will significantly reduce the costs. I was rather shocked at how my opinion changed 180 degrees. Hopefully it won't be so bad for you. But hey, gotta love the free time!

I've always disliked uniforms. It always meant having to buy two sets of clothes, double the laundry and having to change clothes constantly. We home school now, so we don't have to worry about what is worn during learning hours.

I candled the eggs again tonight. I pulled four more, two large white eggs that, if I recall correctly, were from a Leghorn, Polish egg and one brown egg that I'm not sure where its from. I broke all of them open, and only the Polish egg showed any signs of development. The rest of the eggs seem to be doing well, so we'll have to see what happens.

I wouldn't worry too much about comb size with a Blue Andalusian, even the females have big, floppy red combs.

That is why I decided not to call it yet. I figure as long as that comb stays tan then I should be in the clear.

As of now I am going to have to find new homes for this SLC and EE in a few more weeks.

The uniforms just eark my nerves. Our school is so tiny and we don't have the gang rivels like in a big city here. They really couldn't come up with a good reason why to make the kids wear them. I think if they could have made a good argument for them then I would be more open minded to it. For us out here, it is just dumb to me. Our school does a uniform swap and kids closet so people can get extra clothes from that also. My daughter is very upset since she is the kind of girl who loves to wear her princess dresses. She even wears them to help me clean the coop.

If it isn't a dress then it is a skirt. Most of her clothes are pink, purple, or light blue and when I told her she couldn't pick any of those colors she was very upset. Little drama queen. She asked, "well, I can still wear my pretty earings, necklaces, and paint my nails pretty can't I." LOL

Noskivees & AZKat~ Great news about the eggs!

Gallo del Cielo~ I think that what you said is going to be the only good reason for the uniforms. It always took us about 10 minutes a day to figure out something for her to wear. Now at least she will know she can only wear these clothes and it doesn't matter how you wear them.
