@Diannastarr thank you so much for the pics, the feed buckets look super easy and I have some with lids so this idea is perfect.

As for my roo, he was hand raised and does eat from my hand. That's the terrible part, he's got multiple personalities and I never know where the rolodex is going to stop. With the kids and the escalating aggression I feel like we don't have a choice.

I'm really hoping the blue kazoo I got from BlueBaby will work out. He has a different personality and will have the big girls to contend with. I hope they teach him some manners! He is such a sweet boy. BlueBaby has a handsome boy and he seemed pretty calm. Not a lot of crowing despite strangers in his yard. She said while her husband does keep an eye on him she's had no issues. He didn't seem to care either way that she was in the coop. I'm hoping the nice rooster gene has been passed along!

yeah i dont think blue baby would ever keep any bad roos...!! so it all sounds good to me your blue kazoo might be your good boy keeper..! and you are right the older girls they will certainly teach him to behave well..!!! thats the best part about the older ladies, they do train the young roos to behave or else...HA ...lol...

Thanks for your support! I love my chickens like pets so it's a heartbreaker but necessary.

So do you have issues with wild birds eating your feed? I would guess not pigeons unless the buckets are on the ground, but what about sparrows, doves, etc?

He didn't seem to care either way . i think with blue babies roo as the daddy , you will most likely have a nice roo, but about the kids & this young roo, the One thing about his different personality's you have seen, it could be the beginnings of the teen age stage were they go breeding crazy, and when they might think your taking the girls away from them and that makes them up set, so that right there can make them change into getting their way no matter what , so maybe a time out could help him get past that crazy stage , and i would say hey buddy we are not living under your rules, you have to fit into ours & employ some time out in the pen right away before things can develop any further in the wrong direction. like bad kids they have to follow the rules and try to fit in .

My blue roo is still good like that. That's why he is still here. He's a good boy!

His son the Blue Kazoo is my next try with a roo. I'm going to let the littles loose all day with access to the entire yard while I'm home next Wednesday. Hope to have them in the big coop by this time next month.

i agree me to i know how you feel..!!! right on...!!! they are all my babies, and family to me , about the wild birds i didnt have any this year...? but years back we had lots of trapped doves in the main coop, i even kept the door closed so the hens went through a door the size of a large dog door at the bottom of the coop but the doves still got in..? when i think back now they all seemed to go away when i started to use the bucket feeders up on the wall, to hi from the floor and maybe it was hard for them to feed in those..??? also thats about the same time that i started to mix my feed with water & into a mash like feed as i wrote about before, it seems to me that was about the same time the wild birds were gone out of my coops...?? when there was no feed left on the floors ,But i really cant say why for sure ,and actually i almost forgot about them , until you mentioned them..?? so its been a wile like a few years now i guess..? but i do toss out scratch every after noon at 4 and change that to wild bird seed in summer & i guess after my flock is done eating the wild birds must eat some of that , but i cant say i have seen to many wild birds around here at all...?
i had been trying to get some crows i saw in my trees this spring to come stay & live around my place , but no deal they left ..?

they make great predator alarms ..!!and will chase off wild birds..!!maybe you should ask mother nature for some crows to come live at your place..? they could be helpful..?i always ask mother nature to help me with her wild creatures the way they live naturally is helpful to me & mine, i have the most marvelous king snakes i asked for when i bought this place back 20 some years ago and they all came here and raised their young and have killed all the rattlers & eat the mice..! i have some great photos of one of them hunting a rattler behind my coop one night..! they are such spectacular snakes and so helpful indeed ..!

Wow, they still aren't running with the big ones? I turned those 2 austra-white chicks and a black australorp chick hatched around the same time as yours loose in with my big ones a week or so ago. Seem's to be going ok. I have decided however to let the 2 austra-white chicks go, as I would rather work with some naked necks as my 2nd flock. The austra-whites seem like they will do ok in our heat, but do have a strong fascination with my shoe laces.

hahaha thats a total hoot....lol..love it ..lol.. they like your shoe laces....lol.... maybe try the austra whites with some NN just to see what turns out..! it could be interesting..?
