Arizona Chickens

Hey guys I am a bit worried about my little white leghorn, Lady. She is 7 months old and since week 18, she has been giving me nice big eggs every single day. She never takes a day off. This morning I got my usual egg. This afternoon I happened to be in the coop when I noticed her walking like she was constipated, and leaking a clear liquid. All of a sudden a rubber egg popped out, which was immediately devoured by everyone before I could even get it. I figured this was the end of it, but about 30 minutes later, she started walking funny again. I watched as a mini rubber egg (seemed to be just the yolk this time) came out. I grabbed it and threw it in the garden. She went about her business as if nothing had happened.
So she produced THREE eggs today?! How is this physically possible, and should I supplement her diet or anything?
:eek::eek: wow 3 times over ..!!!! 3 eggs in one day :th:eek: amazing..???? my hats off to your hen...!!!:clap:thumbsup:woot:highfive::frow

she still a really young layer, all sorts of weird laying can occur, i only worry about the first with the runny-ness but if she kept discarding i think it is fine, and i wouldn't think a broken shell is still in her vent, my opinion is to make sure the vent is clear and offer calcium like oyster shells if you aren't already.

hens will often have several eggs in process in their system and things can get crossed for a new hen and they can lay really large eggs, double yolks, mini eggs, eggs with a soft shell, etc but they will grow out of this and for my girls, after their first molt they are laying the most gorgeous perfect eggs ever!
Ok thank you :hugs I'm happy to hear yours are laying nicely after their big molt!
I did a little more research and I think you're right. She is such a little laying machine, the poor thing. Being a white leghorn, she was built to do nothing but produce eggs, which I greatly appreciate, but I wish she could take a break for a day lol

I second what @meetthebubus said. Have you ever gotten a double yolker? How about a triple yolker? Or even five yolks in one egg? Five is my personal max, but it's essentially the same thing as what you experienced, but her body actually tried to create individual shells for the extra yolks. My top layer laid huge eggs for 47 days straight before taking a break. Your girl will level out in a few months, and the additional calcium in the mean time may help.

Hi! I am new to raising chicks and I am hoping to find at least 2 olive eggers to join my 6 baby girls (brown egg layers) I currently have now. I just haven't had any luck with the feed stores in my area and im hoping someone in the Phoenix or Mesa area can help me out here. Im hoping for some as young as 1 to 2 weeks old...

Hi & welcome! :welcome I'm not sure many feed stores are doing their big orders as we are in winter, and even when they do, it's rare to see olive eggers. You may want to chat with the feed store people to see what they are ordering next, or check out some online hatcheries and see what the minimum order is. You may have to just be patient because of the season. I'm not sure if hatcheries ship in the winter with such a small order. Keep us posted, I have always wanted some olive eggers!

Yes the local feed store by my house won't order such a small group, I have tried. I was hoping to find maybe a local breeder within the phoenix metro area that might have some OE's for sale. I would prefer to pick them up myself rather then have them shipped if possible! But thankyou for your advice. I think I may have to wait till the spring to find these babies lol

@Prettychick44 AZ Backyard Chickens group on Facebook has a lot of local breeders, many of whom have OE's on a regular basis. You can also check with CBL Livestock in Peoria, Sabrina has a ton of birds and the last time I was in there 2 weeks ago had some 8 week OE's available.
