Arizona Chickens

Pretty sure we got them at the same place based off what you got and the geographical location. Nice people, just a bit off with their practices. I try to think the Andalusians was accidental thing. My son was pretty bummed about the cuckoo marans. Those were supposed to be his chickens.

Awww... that sucks. I know the lady with the cuckoo marans was really excited when she thought she managed to get pure bred americaunas. I guess she was really upset when she found out they weren't what she thought. I wonder if the same thing happened with the marans?

I think she means well, and tries. She has a binder of pages she has printed off showing the standards for marans and things.

That's great!
My sister needs one of those for 5 chickens and she lives in Tucson. Are you going to start manufacturing?

Yeah she does mean well. She's a kind woman. I think she has her hands full with everything she has. I would have bought them even had she said she couldn't sex them. Infact, I would have gotten more to compensate for my ability to effectively pick roosters when I'm aiming for hens. Lol. My luck isn't good with roosters.

How long did it take you? I'd pay for you to build me one... serious.

So.. just... AARGHHH. I'm going to vent. My husband lost his job and my part-time temporary one obviously doesn't have benefits. Now, we can't seem to get health insurance.

Our kid has 1 kidney and my husband has abdominal problems that they have never been able to diagnose despite MRIs and stuff. He's given up trying to figure it out, even though it is painful. So... he hasn't been to the doctor about it in over a year.

The insurance company is freaking out and looking into every little thing wanting to know what is wrong. We got sent a huge stack of things to sign to release records on everything from visits to the eye doctor to an appointment when he had a cough. This is the second big folder of "sign each of these pages" we have gotten.

We've been dealing with it for a month, and uninsured in the meantime.

I don't know what would happen if it was something really serious, like cancer. We'd probably NEVER get covered or they would make us sign off saying they'll cover everything but cancer.

As it is... I'm starting to think that they are trying to make it such a pain in the butt that we'll give up.

I'm sorry. I know its hard. I used to work in real estate and my husband was in mortgages. We went from having everything we needed to scraping to buy groceries. Lots of us are still scraping by. It seems like there is no end to the economic hardship but we have to keep pushing. It will get better someday.

Hello everyone. I've been pre-occupied with building a treadle feeder and making a BYC page for the instructions. I'm mostly finished with it now: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=56638-building-a-treadle-feeder

Tucson
Tofu: that sounds tough. Hang in there.

Mahonri: I'm not sure how long it took to make it, I did it in spare time over a week or so. Mostly I thought too much about it. I could sell them, but I'd have to figure out how long it would take now that I have it all planned out in order to determine how much to charge. I found one for sale on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...829521&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1159wt_913 I was so fed up with feeding the wild birds that I almost bought it, but I decided I could make my own with better materials.

Beckyhsinglsc: If your sister lives in Tucson, I can understand why she might need a treadle feeder! The birds are maddening here.

HI guys,

Its been awhile since i have connected...We got the farm in Queen Creek and are now looking for more chicks. Where can I find a place that sells chicks that are feathered and can take care of themselves? Not too particular on breed... Over on the west side I would go to the stock shop...they have a lot of chicks and animals for sale....is there a place like that on the east side.

Thanks
