Arizona Chickens

You know, I don't usually give names to the chicks that I hatch out because they usually end up being sold. So the new owners can name them. :D But, in the case of my last 2 hatched chicks, they do have names already. That Crested Cream Legbar that hatched out about a week ago has been named Miracle, because of the fact that she was the only one that hatched out from 15 eggs. The new mixed chick that hatched out yesterday, that is now keeping Miracle company is now named Patches, because of it's fluffed up coloring. Both of the chicks are getting along, and Miracle is teaching Patches where the food and water is.

So, anyone look into insulating a coop to keep the heat down?

My chicken cabin is fully insulated. I also have window A/C units to install if things get too bad, but I'm hoping that all of my breeding and culling efforts to date will spare me from have to use them.

And yes, I'm dreading the heat. I heard on report suggesting that we could have average 100* temperature days as early as April this year. That's just too hot, too soon.

Anyone dreading the upcoming summer? With a warm winter I fear we are in for record summer...

Yes, I have been thinking the same thing. I plan on getting ready to soak my misting hose thing and the nozzles and putting my misters in the run back up early this year. I have to cull a couple of boys out there first, so that I can take that one pen out of there that's at the end where I put my misters at.
