I have read a couple threads here at the BYC site with people talking about their hens who have laid eggs before starting to crow, grow spurs, and mounting the other hens. Maybe this problem is behind the situation of why it is happening?

@BlueBaby I think so, people didn't believe me about China they thought she was hiding her roosterness for 8 months but I think it would be harder to stop your roosterness, for lack of better term, than for a hen to have a estrogen issue thus only getting the testesterone portion...

I read an article in a poultry magazine a couple years ago about a hen that did this. Laid eggs for a full year, then when molt came around she grew the hackle and saddle feathers, the wattles, and everything, and started crowing. Became a full on rooster for her second year. Funny thing is the next time she molted she changed back to a hen and went back to laying eggs. They had pics of the before and after, too.

Happens to me sometimes too. If I don't visit the thread for a few days the notifications don't come in. Then when I click on our thread I see I have missed tons of messages

ok question for anyone who wants to answer:

Name one situation/thing that you think is wrong for a chicken owner to do.

this question isn't meant to offend anyone, my guess answers would be about those that don't even visit a site like this bc they are not that in to their chickens. or something you heard or saw in years past.

Well yesterday the wife and I hulked and moved this beast of a coop into the pavers I leveled out the night before. Panting and the run is next I hope to have it finished before the weekend.

Kick a rooster to show him who's boss. That was suggested to me by someone I know who keeps chickens.

There's so many others, but that's the first thing that came to mind.
