Arizona Chickens

I have 9 layers and yesterday was the first day we got 9 eggs.

I've pickled some for hubs, made deviled eggs, brownies, bread pudding, breakfast burritos, soft boiled eggs with toast, fed them to the dog and chickens and given to family and neighbors.

I had 2 eggs out of 4 laying hens today. The other 4 laying hens are on their way to Colorado along with 2 boys for future breeding up there, so I don't know if they laid eggs on the trip. :gig

Edit: I still have 8 chick's in the brooder and more eggs in the incubator.

@SonoranChick well for me it wasn't the boiling method. I found that finding the part of the egg that had that bit of air space, peeling it from there i could find the membrane better which makes it a bit easier.

My theory is when the girls are new layers, their shells and membranes are just so strong boiled eggs are just difficult to peel. I notice now that my girls eggs are easier to peel i don't know if its bc they are older, the shells are still really strong, just not as strong.

or maybe its bc i boil them now in my instapot. :)
The strenth of the membrane definitely has alot to do with it. The trick is keeping it very moist because when the egg is hard to peel it's usually because that membrane has stuck to the white. That's why store bought eggs are often easier to peel, because that membrane is so much weaker.....

Nice chatting with you @Bobby Basham but I really do need to go get some sleep. A lady from Colorado should be here at around 11 am to buy some chickens and chicks from me. Yes, she made a trip.
Oh, I went to bed over an hour before but couldn't sleep, so I got up and checked my computer and responded. I tried to go back to sleep but was awake the entire night until 7:00am and was mad because I had to get up an review some music before going to band rehearsal before church.

@Bobby Basham have you thought about a 4h club? i think i heard of some facebooks local groups that have people that home roos... i dont know of any specific though.
Thanks so much, and I'll check into that. My ex-boss raises cattle and I believe she and her (now grown) kids were involved in 4-H. I still have the phone directory for all the people at work.

Oh, today is my 1-year anniversary and don't have much to show for it, except for the new brats. Just spent another $265 for plywood, custom paint and feed and still need about 15 more 2x4's to reinforce the the top of my run so my hardware cloth won't sag.
