Arizona Chickens

How is everyone's girls laying now that we are past molting? My girls are busier than ever! I have 7 layers and yesterday I got 6 eggs and today 5 eggs so lots of every day layers!

The little ones will soon spend days outside and nights inside. I can tell they are ready bc they are more aware of their surroundings and watch the wild birds from the window and talk about it with the others

One thing I notice is these ee's are always dust bathing I'm sure they will appreciate the sand vs spilled feed and wood chips for a bath :gig
I get 8-10 eggs a day, with my tens girls. We got 9 yesterday! Mine are new layers though so that's expected.

@Bobby Basham have you thought about a 4h club? i think i heard of some facebooks local groups that have people that home roos... i dont know of any specific though.

:goodpost: This is a great idea. If 4H is not interested, you may want to check out the University of Arizona college of Agriculture/Life Science, they have land near Campbell & River where they do all sorts of things with chickens and cows and pigs. My uncle used to raise RIRs in Tucson, but they unfortunately moved to a subdivision where they can't keep chickens at all.

We are constantly giving eggs away to the neighbors and family members, and the dogs get some too. But with that many eggs a day, it seems we always have more than we need! Which is not a problem in my book :D

Out of about 25 girls I'm getting 15-19 eggs a day. Over half of my girls are pullets that just started laying over the last month, so most of the eggs are on the small side.
Just took 6 dozen to a bbq at a friends house last night to give away.... thank goodness they had some empty cartons for me!

Well, these got some black running through them especially around the neck, wings and part of the back. The tail feathers are black.

MyPetChicken must be a smaller operation because they have limited quantities, and toot their horn about the breeders they use.

Actually, it's my understanding that MyPetChicken gets their chicks primarily from other hatcheries and for some of the rarer breeds they use smaller breeders.

I need to start a rule at my house: No carton? No eggs!
