Arizona Chickens

So, yesterday we ended up picking up two Necked necks from @BlueBaby and they seem to be settling in well. View attachment 1282668
Don't worry the whole top is now covered in hardware cloth as well as a 2 ft skirt

Those 2 chicks love each other. In a way, I am glad that the Blue Australorp that you really wanted is ending up in being a roo so that those 2 could stay together. They look to have the peacombs growing in like their mother that @cactusrota now has.

Edit: That Blue one there that you now have always cracks me up. It had hatched from the wrong end of the egg, so I assisted it's hatch.

How is everyone's girls laying now that we are past molting? My girls are busier than ever! I have 7 layers and yesterday I got 6 eggs and today 5 eggs so lots of every day layers!

The little ones will soon spend days outside and nights inside. I can tell they are ready bc they are more aware of their surroundings and watch the wild birds from the window and talk about it with the others

One thing I notice is these ee's are always dust bathing I'm sure they will appreciate the sand vs spilled feed and wood chips for a bath :gig

Out of 50 layers I've been getting 42 - 47 eggs per day.

My Roosters are laying great...Laying up in that feeder stuffing their faces every time I fill it! :gig:lau

Make sure that your girls are getting food too, and that your roosters aren't hogging all of the feed. They can push the girls away in the grabs for food until they are old enough to start getting interested in trying to breed them.

Everyone is getting their share, they all eat a little, then run off, then the others join sorta in shifts.

I'm gonna buy a pet crate and call the Humane Society on Monday.

You must not have had any volunteers to take your boys then, and they still aren't big enough to cook. I guess that's what you will end up having to do then, since you can't have a rooster there, and didn't buy yours from a breeder that will take back the unwanted roos.

Nope.:hitI was also willing to deliver or meet some one half way to take them off my hands.

I don't think that anyone here in our AZ. thread is even breeding the RIR's, so maybe that's why no one took them. I have also heard that the Breeders heirloom RIR's are so dark in color that they almost look black?
Well, these got some black running through them especially around the neck, wings and part of the back. The tail feathers are black.

MyPetChicken must be a smaller operation because they have limited quantities, and toot their horn about the breeders they use.
