Arizona Chickens

My DH and I have been watching a beautiful owl sitting on our fence for about 20 minutes. His body is about 2 foot long with a huge wing span. However, he flew over to our stable and my DH says he is sitting on the wall. That's not a good thing because my chickens are in the next stable. I am hoping he is hunting mice and maybe a squirrel or two tonight.

My dog seems to care less and the owl doesn't seem to pay the dog any attention.

I'm thinkin' I'm not going to get much sleep tonight.

We have ground owls. They live in holes in the ground. They are small but have a large wing span. We also have hawks and other preditor birds. My coops are all closed top pens. I've heard others say they have lost chickens to other birds especially young chickens.

Mahonri - The first egg has pipped a short time ago. Im very excited! Its a GCM!

Wahoo.

If it's silver it will be a male, if it's brown it should be a female. If it's neither you have a 50/50 chance of a dark brown egg layer!

love the pink clothes stories (but not the wound part).

I am going with Mohonri on racoons...just glad the are not in the center of the city where I am.

Hey Mohonri, you changed your avatar!

GCM x BWA - so is my brown barred hen from you going to be a dark brown layer? I'll have to get pic's.

Hey - Does anyone know anything about Moringa trees and feeding the leaves to chickens?

I hope everyones birds are safe tonight

Good morning all! By some miracle, the kids arent up yet, so I thought I would stop in and say hello.

HEEEEELLLLOOooo!

Not much going on in Laree Land. Allthough as soon as the sun comes up, I am going to go plant some cabbage family goodies in the garden .

The chooks are doing better, as the illness has seemed to have passed. Still, we are on permanent FlockDown just to be sure.

I'll try to hop in and post some pictures when I get a chance.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

good to see you here again, laree, you are missed! I've had to re-rehome my small flock as there was a neighbor complaint. . . .very difficult when one needs permission from both owners and residents of every adjacent property, and now i have renters on all 3 sides! Anyhow, the girls are living in Flagstaff with good friend Tony Norris. . . .and presumable, having much more pleasant summers.

Laree... you are alive!

I've got to start planting as well.

After the drill, fill and bill this morning I'll stop by Bakers and see what they have, then it's off to the feed stores for the chickens.

61 degrees at my house this morning. BRRRR!!!

Guess it will warm up later today, but perhaps the cold will help them start to lay!

Good Morning, everyone!

Well, the chickens are all present and accounted for. I went out later and couldn't find the owl, so maybe he found a better hunting ground. My DH says he saw him yesterday morning on our fence, so maybe he is planning on staying for awhile. We have all kinds of mice it can feast on while it is here.

My DS and I are dusting all of the birds again today, and sorting through the Buckeyes to see who is staying or going.

Nice to hear from you again Laree.

Have a nice day, everyone!!

Angie
