Soooo.. two fun notes for the day..
(1)The nest that the girls had stopped laying in, so I'd stopped checking it a few days ago... they'd decided to start laying in again. Was wondering why they'd slowed down, and found 14 bonus eggs today! Haha! Good thing the temps have been fairly moderate here.
(2)The broody hen that's been sitting on eggs in a dark corner of the coop is hatching those eggs today, heard chirping under her!!!!!! Pics of the new babies and their momma soon to come in the next few days! Just really hope the rest of the flock behave as I really didn't have a way to separate her...

She's being a nicely protective momma so far. There's noises coming from under her, but she's hiding them very well and acting like: what chirping? Nothing to see here, move along!!

I'm watching the new Roseanne also dabbling in the voice and American idol what's your fave part of friends? Also ever notice the breed of joeys chicken changes? Lol I heard Lisa kudrow hated or was scared of the poultry lol

It's so hard to pick a favorite part from Friends! I love when Joey gets mad at Chandler and comes in the room wearing everything Chandler owns, and proudly declares, "I'm goin commando!"

What kind of chickens do you raise again?

My primary focus breed for production is Naked Neck Turkens, but I'm also working with Silver Grey Dorkings as my heritage breed. The NNs are amazing production birds, very friendly with great personalities, and shrug off our desert heat with ease. The SGDs are amazingly sweet, docile birds that LOVE to be around people, but they're nowhere near as productive as the NNs. I'm working with them for pleasure and in the hopes of improving their genetics and their numbers in this country.

And...just because of chicken math....I've also added Lavender Australorps and Swedish Flower Hens, as well as incorporating some Alohas into the mix. I actually plan to cross the Alohas with my NNs to create a bit more eye candy in my flocks.

The chickies are poking out now!!! I was able to get my grubby chick stealing hands on four of them for pics (then put them back of course), but have no idea how many are actually under her... right now. I know some eggs were added over the course of incubation when she'd get up during breaks to stretch her legs.. so in a couple of days I'm gonna have to move whatever doesn't hatch into the incubator....

The chickies are poking out now!!! I was able to get my grubby chick stealing hands on four of them for pics (then put them back of course), but have no idea how many are actually under her... right now. I know some eggs were added over the course of incubation when she'd get up during breaks to stretch her legs.. so in a couple of days I'm gonna have to move whatever doesn't hatch into the incubator....

They look so healthy! Love the little poof of down on top of their heads...the second picture especially. Looks like he's ready to go to a punk rock concert. I wonder how many mama hen is hiding from you!

Okay I have to brag. Also hope I don't offend anyone. My husband is not home, and I opened the front door and there is a baby rattlesnake just hangin out The dogs were nearby and this snake was way too close for comfort. So I grabbed the flathead shovel and guillotined his head off! Don't mess with this pregnant lady!! Keep your eyes on the ground friends, snake season is upon us.
