Arizona Chickens

Its hard enough to loose your fur babies BUT when you have feather babies who are sweet and snuggly its doubly hard. I really am sorry @DesertChic.:hit
On another topic the littles are really growing - especially the big dark feathered girl. She has this cresty thing going on her head - looks like she's a rocker - I've named her Punky. I am having so much fun with them. :love

Glad to hear they are well! Love the name I have a punky too! She's a flop crest

@meetthebubus - here is Mr. Mighty. He wasn't cooperating much:

His comb is nuts. And this much white in the feathers is disqualifying for Black Javas. And his eyes are supposed to be dark brown. His chest could be deeper. But he has a solid, wide body and a decent backline for a Java. Wish I could get a recording of his crow. It's high pitched and ends in a gargle. Sounds ridiculous coming from such a large bird, but it's what he's got.

Hi all. How's it going?

Our girls aren't liking their fermented feed right now so they're on a soy and corn free layer crumble instead. I also picked up 25 lbs of pigeon light feed at the store today to use as scratch. They don't like the mister so we are running the hose for them instead.
The broody girl must have been fighting to stay in the nest because there was a mess of broken eggs. She's pretty darn grumpy too...stays away from everyone.

I decided I'm going to offer electrolytes every few days this summer to see if they'll help with heat stress. Another member here tried it for their flock and said it seemed to help. Anyone else tried this option?

@igorsMistress I do electrolytes all summer too. AND I do vinegar water about once a month - I'm careful during the summer with vinegar. My girls have NEVER liked fermented feed BUT they love wet feed and are crazy for it. I haven't been feeling well so my misters are not up yet  Bad, bad, bad - I'm on my week off the meds and I feel pretty good today so will hand either tonight or in the am.
@BlueBaby - whoohoo, yippee and dang but I'm envious. I love the real blue eggs!!
One of the hatching eggs I got babied today - everybody just looks at it....I have one girl still on two eggs with the new baby in front of them - its just too damn hot for babies this time of year!! I'm not sure about the other eggs but it looks like one has a pip. Hoping so I don't have to raise a singleton. It'll be okay if mommy raises a singleton but I'm just not sure how that is going right now. I remember chicks can go a couple days without water, etc as other eggs hatch but geez - its over a 100 degrees out there!!
Zooming slowly to try to catch the yard up after a few days of yucky .......... stay safe in the heat dear ones.
@Bobby Basham - sounds like you got this chicken thing handled!! Enjoy those eggs (and giving them to your neighbors too!) :wee
