Arizona Chickens

i told my semi broody Punky this morning to get out of the box and go drink some of the water i just had made a mud puddle and filled up the drip container for the day, so i went into the mansion and pointed to the door and told her go get some water and she got up and went.

now i don't think she understood the words, but what i think happened was i had already shown the puddle to everyone else, so she was probably hearing about it through them, and then when i pointed to the door, she decided she would go get some too, but she did understand that i was pointing out, etc.

chickens are cool

@Michelle Guynn not sure which part you want the video of, them running or the signs or name, the running part is easy to film, and maybe the names, bc they get a little shy around the camera and retreat a bit (the older ones) but the hand signals, i tried to do a video of that but i don't film myself and i don't want to be out on the internet like that so i don't know how to show it, i do have a video of telling mohawkie to jump up and she did, but that's easy

i'll have to think of how to show some of these things, my hubby said i should wear a go pro on a band around my forehead so i can capture all the cool things i see when i don't have the camera around

like a few weeks ago what roo did was hilarious has anyone ever seen two roosters follow each other up and down the fence, back and forth? well china and roo do that all the time and this one time roo was doing it with his back to the fence so he looked like he was dancing just hanging out and dancing by himself moving his head back and forth, but what he was really doing was following china lol
Just the running around the corner part!

@SonoranChick I don't think anyone on this thread at least will think you silly most of us probably feel similarly also I too am getting busier and dreaded a bit to not see them so often but as an example he night I had a meeting so they went to bed by themselves the next morning everyone was more friendly so I think they missed me, so yours will be extra friendly when they do see you so you'll get more cuddles! And thanks! I have connected with the chickens they amaze me how mipuch you can communicate with them

Ok I'm a bit nervous I kept putting off integration but the ee's part is getting small, for them so it's only fair yo open up the fence in between them. I'm nervous for 3 main reasons
1. Roo might want to mate with the pullets and he's so big still, compared to them

2. Will the ee's eat the oyster shells and get sick bc they are not near laying yet?

3. Will having 19 young flyers so close scare my sensitive 2 yr old buffs too much

We'll see tomorrow morning (tuesday) I'm planning to release and planning to film that too

Have no fear about the Oyster shells. This form of calcium is one that chickens will not overdose on. Some of it will remain in gizzard and act as grit. Rest (extra) will go thru chicken with no harm. It is only the processed calcium like in layer feed, that if given to non layers, that is of concern. I have been keeping chickens for 20+ years, and always have oyster shell available free choice. I only keep as pets, and ALL my chickens live long lives.
I will be watching for your posts and video when you do the integration,,:thumbsup

Don't worry about the oyster shell, I have 4 pullets out back that made it and never got sick. All will be well :thumbsup. You won't know what will happen until you integrate. It's gotta happen. Just do it and get it over with :thumbsupall will be well. If not, you're ready to handle it :highfive:

Really I think #1 is the only thing you MAY have to worry about. Everyone else answered to #2, and most likely you'll see some of the hens gently pecking at them to keep them in line for the first couple of days.
If your roo does get rambunctious with them, you'll see some drama, but it shouldn't be too bad.. especially if he's over a year old. Younger roo's are the worst.
