Arizona Chickens

Bob's Henhouse :

Mahonri, glad to do it. They had problems with the machine, r lines or something. Couldn't give me back the second round of plasma and saline, but it was an interesting experience nonetheless. Never heard of 'double red' before. I'm going to go through my memory cards now and see if I can find Joseph. I'll post a few of some of the others and maybe the coop.
Wish I could put some more eggs in the incubator, but I don't want too many different times going at once, gets too complicated. I do have a few brrody hens though.

NoSkiveez, that frizzel looks like our rooster, named Crash. We were trying to catch it one day cuz it thought it was the king of the roost and clawed both of my boys legs, and it ran right into the wall around the raised bed garden. LOL Hence, Crash.

The bottom picture is a polish but I do have a handful of frizzles. Thankfully I only have 1 rooster that's a big jerk. I typically don't want a mean roo around because we have 5 kids, 3 of which are under 15 months old.

NoSkiveez, I am pretty much worthless at telling breeds apart. Mine must be a Polish, it's a carbon copy of yours. I have the same problem with all the other birds picking his crest feathers out.. I can't tell if he has male pattern baldness or just likes that 'monk' haircut. The worst part is he just sits there and lets them! lol

Some of the critters we get to put up with around here, some of which think I'm supposed to be providing them with little feathered morsels to eat. The great horned owl and the hawk are sitting on the swingset in the back yard. The owl pic is from tonight. It keeps buzzing the back yard by the patio where the newest chicks are, and checking out the "Arizona room" where I've got a light on for the juvenile birds I just moved into the coop.

It's fun peeling the king snake and gopher snake off of the sticky traps. LOL Never would have pictured doing that, but, don't want to hurt the good critters. Almost peeled a small rattlesnake off one, had already picked it up thinking the king snake got stuck again, then noticed the color and head weren't the same as the one I rescued a couple of days earlier.
A few pics of chickens and coop will follow in a day or so.

Hello all. I am looking to buy a pallet of lay crumble for the growing flock. I really don't like going to the feed store at all and know that I can get some type of discount if I buy that much. Does anyone know of a shop on the west side that may sell me that much? I can get 40 50lb bags for 10.80 a bag Sun Valley Brand in Wickenburg, just wondering if I can get it cheaper anywhere else.

Mahonri... I candled last night and tossed two unfertile eggs one was a BCM and the other was the polish mix. One more week and I should have a whole bunch of little fuzzy butts running around. I stuck a few eggs from my ladies on the suggestion of my husband so I have 21 still in the bator and have no idea what I'm gonna do with more, but who can pass??

Wow if you can get it for that cheap. Take it! 10.8 a bag.

What kind of feed is it?

If it is from Arizona Feeds, then I wouldn't bother.

Guess I'm going to have to figure why the polish isn't getting her eggs fertilized....

Great pictures Bob! We have a barn owl and several ground owls, coyotes, hawks, big frogs, snakes, and other interesting animals. Chrystal lives on the other side of town and she had a bob cat trapped at her place that made front page of the local paper. But I rarely see them.

If your polish has long stringy type head feathers, its probably male. The females have large round heads.

What is the quality of Sun Valley brand? Mesa feed barn will go about $13.42 per bag if you buy ton of the layer (Purina). It normally sells for $14.45 a bag.

Beverlyl, I pay 11.99 for Kruse's at Dales, so 10.80 sounds pretty good. When I buy Layena it's 13.49 a bag. How is the quality? Do the hens like it? It's almost as close for me to go to Wickenburg as to Dales. Where in Wickenburg do you get it? I usually only get 15 bags at a time, but can definately buy more if the price is better.
