Arizona Chickens

Aww poor baby that is unexpected!

Anyone who sells fertilized eggs how do you treat them before sale? Just right out of the box to the buyer?

And anyone know of ways to sell eggs locally?

On the fertilized eggs, you don't wash them. Just put them small end down in an egg carton, unless they really appear to be dirty like from mud or something. The real dirty one's would have to be able to just be brushed off with your hand, or don't add it to the hatching eggs. Washing the eggs will take off the protective bloom from the hens when they lay them. You don't want bacteria to get into your hatching eggs.

As far as selling the regular eating eggs locally, you almost have to go by word of mouth I think, unless you want to get a license to sell them. (You know how the FDA and that is) Then you could just put a sign up in your front yard.

my girls were surprisingly clean ,I have a nice deep 5 gallon tub I got at the dollar general for $5.00 because I to dont have the room to bath my birds in my home, so washing my birds in this large wide and deep tub and my birds had only like maybe 2 or 3 bugs of some kind..? mites or what ever per bird..?? and I found no reason for the loss of feathers..? they had no scratching, no bullies picking on them, no sign of any discomfort , but 4 or 5 of them out of the 8 road island whites in my flock have most of the feathers on their backs almost gone..??? they are all one year old along with other breeds 30 in all I bought all together last year, they and only them are all seemingly molting..? the rest of the flock , all my 75 birds ,look great as usual and who would normally molt at the most inconvenient time of year in the late fall..? not so good to be in full molt when the weather turns cold , totally not good , but with this new situation and these youngest girls are molting badly , I became worried for them, and got out my giant tub and gave them all a bath, and vacuumed out their nest boxes then spreading DE in the clean boxes then lots of new wood shaving , then spraying all their perches with water & oil with a bit of soap,.. im hoping this is a molt and that they will all start molting at this time of year ,if this is a molt its a better time for that, if this is whats going on..? so any one have any ideas as to what could be going on..??? with this small group of birds..? here is a pic of that big tub, its very handy for bathing chickens and or what ever, and at a great price , I had also seen these tubs at Walmart for 2.00 they look like the old fashioned hand cloths washing tubs from the past, so I picked up a few more,

Through the Phoenix Craigslist ad that she posted about the rare breed chickens. That Splash Chiquita is what caught my eye.

Here's the link I seen them at and tried to contact her through it:

I bought Bielefelder hatching eggs from her....drove up to Phoenix to get the eggs from her. Two eggs in the first batch nearly exploded in the incubator and not a single egg hatched. She gave me another half a dozen eggs; one hatched and the chick died within two days after suffering horribly. I sent one of her eggs and the chick in for testing. They tested positive for pullorum. I know of several other people who've had similar experiences with her chicks and hatching eggs. She never culls her birds for genetic issues.

It's been a while since @DesertChic has popped into our thread here. Has anyone heard from her? Is she ok?

Sorry, I had to take an unexpected hiatus while my husband's been trying to heal from a car accident back in March. We'd thought he was improving, but then he took a bad turn and now is preparing for neurosurgery and maybe orthopedic surgery as well to keep from being crippled. It's been a trying time. I've had to look after him, the birds, and our business all alone.

Has anyone's chickens started to molt yet? I just got an email from @Diannastarr and she said that her flock of the Rhode Island Whites are looking bedraggled and starting to loose feather's. She gave them all a bath, but only a couple of bugs were in the water along with some tiny grains of dirt like salt.

The majority of my birds are molting. They look hideous...the poor dears...but at least it might be cooler for them in this heat.

@DesertChic What do you think - roo? I'm hoping SHE (we call her Blondie) is just so blonde that her growing up shows like a zit before prom. I really can't determine if she has saddle feathers. AND a little bit of eye candy. Our little copper top, penciled feathers - we call her Penny.

Based on the photo I'm still guessing pullet. Did I turn out to be wrong? The boys are already crowing.

Hey there, welcome back! Thank's for the head's up on those Chiquita's. It's too bad, because I really liked the look's of them, even if they are a smaller breed. I heard that the Chiquita's are a mix of silkie's and the banty sized B/B/S Americauna's.

I though he was supposed to be getting better also. Sorry that he took the bad turn, and I hope that he will be better soon.

I suppose it's better that they are molting early, so they will get back to better egg laying after the heat passes.
