Arizona Chickens

Sorry, I had to take an unexpected hiatus while my husband's been trying to heal from a car accident back in March. We'd thought he was improving, but then he took a bad turn and now is preparing for neurosurgery and maybe orthopedic surgery as well to keep from being crippled. It's been a trying time. I've had to look after him, the birds, and our business all alone.
Sending quiet vibes of strength, and healing your way...

"I suppose it's better that they are molting early, so they will get back to better egg laying after the heat passes.[/QUOTE]"

Actually, most of my NN girls continue to lay pretty steadily even while in molt to the point that I actually start pleading with them to take a break for the sake of regrowing those feathers. I'm still getting 3-4 dozen eggs PER DAY and have been feeding crushed up hard-boiled eggs plus shells to my birds multiple days per week. My fully feathered birds will take time off during molt, but my NNs don't know the meaning of "vacation". ;)

got a mini, mini egg, putting up a video soon on it here's a pic preview!! it was the size of my thumb nail

I haven't found any green eggs in a while. The most unexpected is where I haven't looked yet :gig

Oh boy, by the time you find them, there might not be anything left but the shell, and some tiny chicks? :lau

ok here it is as promised...

It's a good thing if it was fertile that it didn't end up being hatched under a broody. Who know's how it might have ended up? :gig

I found 3 of the tan NN eggs out there today already, so at least I now know that all 3 of my girls of those are laying now, too!

I went out to check on the girls this afternoon and several of them were laying in the direct sun with their wing and leg out, just sunbathing. Maybe working on their tan? :p It's so hot out I can't believe they would want to lay in the sun, but they seemed pretty content so I left them to catch some rays.

Crazy, isn't it? I ran outside this afternoon thinking I had half a dozen dead hens from the heat. Nope! They're just soaking up the rays. Crazy birds!
